Some things in life are just better together. Bert and Ernie. Kim and Kanye. Cheese and cake. Lucky for us, Auckland has one hella strong cheesecake game. Whether you like yours dense with chocolate, adorned with bacon (yes, it’s a thing) or something on the healthier side, all your cheesecake desires are catered for in this city of ours. Following on from last year’s round-up of the best cheesecake in Auckland, here are eight MORE places to satisfy your cheesecake craving. You’re welcome.
Baker & Co
Sweetening up East Auckland is the creative folk at Baker & Co. With a “just like Mum used to make” approach to baking, these guys have sweet (and savoury treats) perfected. When it comes to cheesecakes, the café is responsible for the likes of lemon meringue, Nutella, brownie salted caramel (is this the real life?!) and apple crumble. And yes, they’re as amazing as they sound.
Hillsborough, Eden Terrace and Takapuna
Gain popularity at your next bring-a-plate event with a cheesecake from Bluebells Cakery. They have three creations available to order: white chocolate and raspberry, passionfruit and chocolate hazelnut (our fave!). They also hold dessert nights at their Takapuna and Hillsborough stores where you can nab a mini cheesecake (or two) for yourself.
No visit to Circus Circus is complete without dessert. Choose between the likes of banoffee pie, crème brûlée or—of course—cheesecake. They have two cheesy delights: baked vanilla or Malteser. The latter is served in a jar and stars a malt biscuit base topped with a creamy cheesecake blend packed with crushed Maltesers. Being a circus-themed café, the dessert is then topped with a clown-shaped chocolate—cute!
House Of Chocolate
With a name like House Of Chocolate, you’d expect this café to be responsible for some pretty mouth-watering treats—and that they are! While their cheesecakes change on the reg, their decadent creations have included s’mores, matcha espresso and a Belgian chocolate number topped with caramelised bacon—yes, BACON. While you’re at it, be sure to treat yo’self to some of their handcrafted chocolate bonbons.
Newmarket and Rosedale
No cheese was harmed in the making of Sip Kitchen’s raw, vegan cheesecakes. These dairy-free delights come in flavours such as lemon rosemary, peanut butter cacao, passionfruit and vanilla cherry. The dense, flavoursome cakes are not only delicious but also nutritious. Wash down with a turmeric latte and you’ll be away laughing.
When it comes to cheesecakes, sometimes you just can’t go wrong with a classic. 4&20 Bakery is a top contender for the best baked New York cheesecake in town. The vanilla number is exactly how a good cheesecake should be: dense af and with a perfectly golden top. You can order it by the slice or as an entire cake (we won’t judge).
Catering to the vegans of Auckland is Wise Cicada. The health store boasts an on-site café specialising in all things delicious yet healthy. Their raw cheesecake offerings come in flavours such as strawberry, banoffee, orange choc and mint choc chip. Rest assured, your dietary requirements are catered for as the café prides itself on being gluten, dairy and refined sugar-free. Good stuff, Wise Cicada!
Located within Northern Arena fitness centre, you’ll stumble upon Gather Wholefoods. This incred café is also all about the raw, vegan cheesecakes. Choose between the likes of chocolate caramel, white choc raspberry and choc peppermint. Adorned with flowers, lashings of chocolate and fresh fruit, these cheesecakes are almost (key word: almost) too pretty to eat!
