There’s no denying us Kiwis love a good pie. You’ll never hear us turning down a mince and cheese number from the service station’s warmer—we could never deny such deliciousness. While these savoury delights have had our hearts for years, we’ve developed a new love in recent times…dessert pies!

Taking inspo from America’s dessert scene, Auckland has embraced the trend with open arms (and spoons at the ready). Pecan, banoffee, key lime, pecan and pumpkin...we want them all and we want them now! Here are seven of the best places to get a sweet pie fix (pun intended) in Auckland.

The Culpeper

Princes Wharf

The Culpeper take your pie obsession very very seriously. In fact, they have a dedicated PIE menu starring not one, not two but FIVE different pies. Work your way through key lime, salted caramel apple, chocolate pecan, s’mores and the ever-changing ‘pie of the week’. The deliciousness doesn’t end there—no siree! They’re served a generous dollop of ice cream for good measure.

The Pie Piper

Online

Mother-daughter duo The Pie Piper are the experts when it comes to dessert pies. Their mouth-watering creations include the likes of salted caramel apple, pumpkin, rocky road and lemon meringue. Order online and pick up from their Manukau HQ or your local Farro Fresh store. They’re in the process of opening their very own store on K Road later this month…watch this space!

The Garden Shed

Mt Eden

Not only is The Garden Shed a very, very beautiful restaurant, they also serve a very, very beautiful apple pie. Served in a piping hot skillet, this delicious creation is baked to order before being topped with vanilla bean ice cream. The generous pudding is big enough to serve two (or more!) but it’s so yummy we guarantee you’ll want it all to yourself.

Miss Clawdy

Wynyard Quarter

Let’s be honest, no visit to Miss Clawdy is complete without dessert. Choose between cookie ice cream sandwiches, beignets or—the real star of the show—key lime pie. Starring a perfectly golden torched meringue topping, the zesty dessert is the perfect way to finish of your Southern American feast.

Federal Delicatessen

Auckland City

For the best threesome you’ll ever have, make a beeline for Federal Delicatessen. Mind out of the gutter, folks—we’re talking about their ever-popular three-way pie combo. The dessert allows you to devour three slices of their famous dessert pies (pumpkin, banoffee, lemon meringue or New York-style cheesecake). If you’re not game enough, you can order single slices—go hard or go home, we say!

Circus Circus

Mt Eden

If there’s one thing we can’t say no to, it’s a slice of banoffee pie. There’s something so damn irresistible about the perfect pairing that is banana and toffee! Get your ooey gooey fix from Circus Circus in Mt Eden. Make sure you arrive hungry—the slices of cream-laden pie are huge and you’re gonna want to finish every last crumb of deviousness.

Orleans

Britomart

Americans sure know their way around a dessert pie. It’s no wonder that New Orleans-inspired eatery, Orleans, has got things down pat. As well as a delish key lime cheesecake, you’ll also find banoffee and pecan pies. The banoffee pie better than your average with a chipotle maple glaze and a crisp sage garnish. Make it an all-American meal with fried chicken waffles for your main—yum!
