For crunchy, moist morsels of fried chicken, Ramen Takara is where you need to go. You can either opt for for six or 12 pieces, but definitely to go for the latter—the more fried chicken the merrier, right?

Ralph’s proclaim that their chicken is awesome (literally, it’s called Ralph’s Awesome Fried Chicken) and we 100% agree. Any fried chook drizzled in yum yum mayo is automatically a favourite of ours. Chop Chop’s Korean fried chicken comes with chilli sauce and crushed peanuts, and is the next delicious dish to go on your eating bucket list. Fried food for the win, we cannot get enough.
Those yet to sample the heavenly marriage of fried chicken and waffles must visit Orleans ASAP. This signature dish features homemade waffles and a decent serving of fried chicken with herb butter, maple chipotle glaze and crispy sage. Brining a bit of America to Auckland, this is actual happiness on a plate.
When chicken and buttermilk collide, magic happens. Miss Moonshine’s soak their chook in buttermilk before deep frying and plating alongside avo, cucumber and ranch. Not only is it one of the best fried chicken dishes in Auckland, it’s quite possibly one of the best in the world.
Simple yet utterly delicious is Renkon’s chicken karaage. Forget K-fry, this is how fried chook should be. Squeeze over some lemon and go hard on the mayo for a truly epic mouthful of chicken. We like to get ours with a little rice and teriyaki sauce to mix it up—because when you think fried chicken has gotten old, ya just add sauce!
Boy & Bird
Corn meal buttermilk chicken with pickled slaw and tamarind mayo is Boy & Bird’s take on fried chicken and it’s mighty fine. Some might even say it’s the best fried chicken in Auckland and we might just have to agree with them on that.
