If you and your sister-from-another-mister are all about the food, then a night at Odettes should be on the cards. While their brunch menu is the bomb, when the stars come out, you can feast on shared plates and tackle the cocktail menu. This pretty restaurant serves up the likes of pork confit wrap, grilled halloumi, lamb shoulder with gingered yoghurt and nuts, and some mighty fine wild mushies. On the drinks front there’s bottled negroni and an all-too-tempting espresso martini. Because what’s girls’ night without a caffeinated tipsy buzz?
Pocket Bar & Kitchen
Rock up straight from the office and give the working week the middle fingie at this Grey Lynn bar. Pocket Bar & Kitchen will pop you a bottle of bubbly or shake you up a house concoction. Our pick? Miss Plum made with rum, plum and cinnamon. Quality catch up sessions are serious stuff and a gal’s gotta eat. Pocket Bar is fully equiped put your tum grumbles to a halt with teriyaki chicken sliders and a zingy dish of Vietnamese tartare, which you can enjoy under their glass roof. Bliss.
Sometimes all you want is a big, bad bowl of finger-lickin’ chicken wings and a cold beer. Sometimes you also just want to rock up to a place in jeans and a tee...getting dolled up can be a total hass. Flight 605 in Morningside will have you feeling comfy and at home from the moment you walk through the door. This dinky neighbourhood bar has a cosy courtyard out back (with fairy lights!), free popcorn and plenty of boutique bevvies to sip on. Where them girls at?
Rally up your girl gang because we’re heading into the jungle. When it comes to cocktails the more the merrier and, whimsical bar, The Gardens have oh-so kindly designed their drinks list with this in mind. Share the goss over a bright blue cocktail jug and wood fired pizza. It’s girls’ night done right.
When the hustle and bustle of the nine-to-five grind slows down in Britomart, the girls come out to play. Japanese hotspot, Ebisu attracts savvy ladies in for mouth-watering shared plates and exotic cocktails, sipped while sinking into comfy booths. Order the sticky pork belly, mixed sahimi and two portions of the miso-glazed eggplant because that shiz is addictive.
Newcomer to the Ponsonby dining scene, AdamArnold, is as pleasing to the eye as it is to the taste buds. The place is decked out in marble and gold (one ‘gram coming right up) and offers a ‘sharing is caring’ menu to banish food envy once and for all. From Greek risoni salad and sourdough sliders to jerk spiced chook and pork loin, there’s something for every lass.
