The origin of “Happy Hour” comes from the acknowledgement that as soon as people leave work and get themselves a drink for a reasonable price, they feel nothing but pure happiness. Yes, we may have made this up, but we know you can relate. That said, it can be hard to know where and when to head to get the best Happy Hour deals available. So we’ve done our research (and endured many a mid-week hangover to do so!) to bring you our guide to the best bars for Happy Hours in Auckland.

The Empire

Auckland CBD

Dating back to 1870, it’s fair to say The Empire has stood the test of time. Be a part of history and sign up to their VIP club to enjoy 10 per cent off drinks all day, erryday. When Happy Hour rolls around (5.30pm to 6.30pm), you’ll enjoy 20 per cent off bevvies.

Mexican Café

Auckland CBD

When it comes to Happy Hour, the Mexican Café doesn’t do things by halves. From 5pm to 7pm daily you can get amongst $8.50 margaritas, $5 beersies and house wine for just $4.50 (!). If you’re a go-hard-or-go-home kinda kid, throw back a shot (or two) of $5 tequila and you’ll be away laughing—arrrriba!

La Zeppa

Victoria Park

Sunset sessions on Fridays at La Zeppa means $9 SOHO Frose from 4pm to 7pm. Come Friday and Saturday and they’ll throw in a line-up of DJs to keep your head bopping and toes tapping.

Madame George

K' Road

If you like your Happy Hour with a touch of class, pop into K' Road’s Madame George from 5pm. They like to mix things up with their ever-changing drink specials, featuring the likes of margaritas, aperol spritz and negroni.

Little Easy

Ponsonby

There’s no such thing as a happy hour at Little Easy, instead they have happy hours—plural! Stretching across 4pm to 7pm, you can get your mitts on $10 cocktails. Three hours of Happy Hour means triple the happiness.

De Post

Mt Eden

The good folks at Mt Eden’s De Post are keeping us well hydrated every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday with drink specials between 5pm to 7pm. The Belgian bar is the perfect place to wind down after a long day of being a legend.

Spitting Feathers

Auckland CBD

If you’re feeling particularly thirsty come Thursday night, swing past Spitting Feathers to get amongst Thirsty Thursday. Here you’ll find $3 (yes, $3!) Heineken and $5 house wine—madness! Enjoy responsibly, it IS a school night after all.

Gusto at the Grand

Federal St

Gusto at the Grand like to celebrate aperitivo hour a.k.a. Happy Hour. Originating from the Latin word “aperire”, “aperitivo” means initiate or get started. Long story short, Gusto is the perfect pozzy to wind down after work and get started paaartying! From 5pm to 7pm you’ll enjoy a complimentary bite to eat with any drink purchased.

The Bluestone Room

Auckland CBD

Nestled away on Durham Lane, The Bluestone Room has the happiest of Happy Hours. From 4pm to 6pm they have an array of drink specials including $4 Heineken, $6.50 pints and wine from just $6. On Fridays, they extend happy hour until 8pm and 7pm on Saturdays—cheers to that!

Carmen Jones

K’ Road

There is nothing better than sipping a glass of vino by the fire, right? Pop into Carmen Jones—another K’ Road gem—Tuesday through Sunday from 4pm to 7pm to get your drink and food daily fix. Here you’ll find house wines, beers on tap, bubbles and sangria—all for just $6 a glass! You can also get a slice of pizza for $5, a delicious bowl of soul food for $11 or churros for $7. Who’d say no to something like this?

Bedford Soda & Liquor

Ponsonby Central & Takapuna

Bedford Soda & Liquor is known for some of the best cocktails in town—and for yummy meatballs everything. Go there for drinks with your buddies from 5pm to 7pm on a Friday night and get a whole bucket of Buds for $7 each. If you don’t like beer, there’s also wine specials. And make the most of the $5 shoestring fries.

Odettes Eatery

Auckland CBD

If you’re heading out on Friday night with the gals or the guys, make sure you hit up Odettes. As orange is the new black, sip on a $10 Spiced Aperol Spritz. Not your thang? Wines and tap beers are available for $8. If you don’t know this yet—Odettes also has its own wine brand. And you know what? It’s almost to good to be true.

Oyster & Chop

Viaduct Harbour

Head to Viaduct Harbour’s Oyster & Chop from 4pm to 7pm for oysters. That’s right, they offer Oyster Happy Hour instead of drinks—and they’re just $2 each! Spoil yourself with a dozen Rock Oysters while enjoying the view of the Viaduct. Offer is available erryday!
