There is simply no better way to transport your taste buds to France than the sweet taste of a macaron. That perfect wafer crunch, counterbalanced by the soft gooey inside, will sweeten any sour situation.

In love with the delicate treats yourself? Here is everywhere you need to go to nab one of the tastiest macarons in Auckland. P.S. If you’re up for a challenge, visit them all in one day and let the binge begin—Parisian style!

Miann

Britomart and Fort Street

If you haven’t been to Miann for a macaron, you haven’t lived. Big call but a worthy one as these guys have the most insane flavour combos on offer. Think New York cheesecake, peanut butter crunch, pecan chocolate brownie and popcorn salted caramel. The gelato menu is equally as fantastic with the likes of s’mores caramel chocolate gelato with smoked marshmallow. Our advice? Have a macaron in one hand and a gelato in the other to call it a balanced meal.

La Fourchette

St Heliers

The most authentic (and the most delicious!) French pastries can be found in the heart of St Heliers. We are, of course, talking about La Fourchette’s three-in-one wonder—it’s a restaurant, café annnd patisserie. Baking French goodies daily, you’ll find the likes of tarlets, mille-feuille, eclairs and—of course—macarons. Vibrant in both colour and flavour (there’s even a green mojito number), this is French pastries at their finest. Pro tip: visit for the macarons, stay for hummus—it’s divine!

L’Assiette

Britomart

If you need an inner-city macaron fix, look no further than L’Assiette. As the sister eatery of La Fourchette, they also serve the much-loved French treats. Pick and choose between the delicate delights—they make the sweetest gift (pun intended). The tempting gluten-free flavours include chocolate, vanilla, caramel, raspberry and lemon. Oh, and while you’re visiting, stick around for one (or two) of L’Assiette’s equally delish French crepes!

Vaniyé Patisserie

Parnell

Sitting pretty in Parnell, Vaniyé Patisserie specialise in authentic Parisian-style desserts. One foot in here is a trip to France minus the expensive plane ticket—the place is oozing with European elegance. Showcasing both traditional and innovative macarons alike, choose between salted caramel, blueberry pomegranate, lychee rose or even Thai milk tea. Order a macaron alongside a long black and pass the day away. After all, the French are known for spending long days at cafes, doing nothing but sipping coffee and spreading chic vibes. We could get use to this.

Milse

Britomart

It’s no surprise the decadent dessert bar Milse serves some of the best macarons in Auckland. Located in Britomart amongst the high-strung fairy lights, there’s arguably no better place to enjoy a sweet treat. Leaving with solely one macaron is impossible when the flavours include cookie dough, dulce de leche, lemon curd and marshmallow. The array of decorated chocolates, gelato and cakes can also not be ignored. We recommend grabbing an ice cream for now, and a box of assorted macarons to go. It’s called tactical eating, friends.

Bluebells Cakery

Eden Terrace, Takapuna and Hillsborough

Despite the name, Bluebells isn’t solely a cakery! Yep, you guessed it, they’re also serving up some of the best macarons in town. With the choice between chocolate, salted caramel, raspberry, coffee, lemon or peppermint, let’s just hope you’re more decisive when it comes to ordering than we are. Luckily, you can opt for the assortment pack that has all six flavours in one box—absolute win!
