Tapas-style eating is definitely at the top of our list for ways to eat out. Why run the risk of having major food envy when you can try a little bit of everything?

If you’re like us, and you also enjoy sharing your food, then look no further, because here is where to find Auckland’s best shared plates.

Apéro

CBD

Your mouth will start to water just reading the menu at Apéro. We can’t go past the bag of bread and butter and goats cheese croquettes with Kamahi honey and falafels with coriander yoghurt. Located on K' Road, Apéro exudes an intimate, modern and refined ambience, where good food and great wine is key.

Auckland's Best Shared Plates

Blue Breeze Inn

Ponsonby

If you call yourself an Aucklander then you can pretty much guarantee you’ve indulged in a good Southeast Asian feast from Blue Breeze Inn. With plates made to share, we highly recommend the cured salmon salad, prawn dumplings, bok choi and of course the pork buns are a no-brainer (but also no-sharer).
Auckland's Best Shared Plates

Madam Woo

Takapuna

It originally opened its doors in Queenstown, and Madam Woo also resides in Takapuna, quickly becoming a hotspot for locals. This Malaysian-inspired menu has a ‘woo feast’ option, offering a selection of plates to make it easier for group ordering.

Chinoiserie

Mount Albert

This Mt Albert joint is mostly regarded for its pork buns. And, while they are unmissable and definitely unshareable, the sides to go with it make for some of the best sharing plates in Auckland. For a classic Chinese feast from Chinoiserie order the Choy Sum, fries with wasabi mayo and edamame beans.

Mekong Baby

Ponsonby

You can tell the Southeast Asian culture loves shared foods when over half the restaurants on our list are inspired by the area. And we’re certainly not complaining! The pork belly of course is a favourite, along with the spiced lamb ribs and Kingfish sashimi. Located along Ponsonby Road, Mekong Baby is just another favourite for us.

Mexico

CBD, Ponsonby, Takapuna

Known for its spick-and-span service, street-style food and small plates to share, Mexico is always one of our top spots come Friday night. The place has a waiting list no matter which location you visit, but due to the nature of the service, a table is never too far off. We recommend the corn esquites and guac of course!

Auckland's Best Shared Plates

Miss Moonshines

Ponsonby

Meat eaters rejoice! Miss Moonshine’s has answered your prayers. This barbeque joint is all about slow-cooked, wood-smoked, quality New Zealand meat. The street-style food is served hot off the grill and is perfect for sharing some juicy slabs of meat.

Café Hanoi

CBD

For a modern take on classic Vietnamese, head to Café Hanoi in Britomart. It’s a place where sharing dishes is encouraged, by sticking to its traditional roots of eating in Vietnam. With a menu so good, we recommend asking the waiters for their recommendations based on your tastebuds.

Odettes

CBD

You’ve probably heard us raving about the breakfast at Odettes before, but it’s not the only time of the day they do good food. The lunch and dinner menu turns into plates to share from the garden and the wood-fire. The wild mushroom is an absolute must-have.

Dida’s Wine Bar

Ponsonby

Residing on Jervois Road is Dida’s Wine Lounge, with a relaxed atmosphere, European tapas and a comprehensive wine list. This is one place to add to your Friday night bucket list.

Bodega Eatery

Oratia

If you’re a wine and cheese kinda’ person than be sure to visit Bodega Eatery located in Oratia, just 25 minutes from Auckland CBD. Their restaurant is open Wednesday until Sunday for platters and small plates. Aside from the delicious platters, that include cheeses, we’ve got our eye on the delicious queso de cabra—crumbed and fried goats-cheese with almonds and honey.
