Thursday is almost Friday, which is almost the weekend, which means it’s time to get your drink on—our thinking is flawless BTW. We figured that most people need a little incentive to get through the work week, and what better way than sipping on delicious (and economic) bevvies in Auckland each and every Thursday night.
And so, here’s our round-up of the best happy hours to enjoy on a Thursday night.
When it comes to happy hours, what could make us even more happy that bubbles? Bubbles with a view! Harbourside boasts one of Auckland’s best decks and, even better, they celebrate Champagne Hour (well, actually it’s three hours) each weekday night, including Thursdays. Cheers to that!
With a whopping 14 taps to choose from, The Chamberlain has one of the happiest hours in town! On from four to six, the local legends serve up ice-cold brews at a discounted rate from a range that will leave you spoilt for choice. What are you waiting for? Grab the team together head on down for a cold one, and don’t forget to tackle a gigantic stack of the St. Louis Pork Ribs—you can thank us later.
Up some unassuming stairs in Wyndam Street, you’ll be greeted with swarms of people on a Thursday night at Spitting Feathers. Why? Because of their fabulous Thirsty Thursday deals. Whether it’s a house wine for $5, a cool Heineken for $4 through to deals for house spirits, and even pizza, you’ll want to make a beeline for this buzzing pub each Thursday. Make sure you put these guys on your list of bars to visit for Thirsty Thursday!
For a tiki-tastic Thursday, head to Talulah in Britomart. Channelling a retro tiki bar, the intimate venue is decked out with lush foliage, bright pops of colour and all things tropical. And if the quirky venue wasn't enough to get you excited, Talulah also has happy hour dedicated to daiquiris. Head to the rooftop venue between 5pm and 7pm from Tuesday to Thursday and sip on the $10 cocktails.
Turning happy hour into feasting hour, The Nightingale has your back. For just $20 bucks, every Thursday you can get a big ol’ plate of ribs and fries (the only two food groups that matter really) alongside a house beer or cider. Sounds like a winning combo to us! Along with stunning harbour views and one of the best decks in town, Thursday night has never looked so good!
Not only do they dish up some of the biggest and baddest burgers in town, Fokker Bro’s all day happy hour, is the non-stop blessing we didn’t know we needed. With $7 house spirits all day, they kick things up a notch from two to five with $5 Carlsberg beers–score!
Hot wings and craft beer, need we say more? Vultures’ Lane stock some of the best home-grown and international craft beers and, for a mere $5 on Thursdays, you can smash back a plate of hot wings and get a free beer to wash it all down. Yes, please!
For some seriously sweet sea views and a de-lici-ous menu, you might want to check out North Park. This little gem can be found in Wynyard Quarter, where you can expect to throw back $10 cocktails and $7 wines on a Thursday.
From five til six pm on our beloved Thirsty Thursday, you can expect to find $5 Monteiths and Heineken beers as well as settlers wines. With a stone floor and cavernous feel, this dark bar will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time.
The Mexican Café does many things right: from free corn chips to margaritas to a great vibe. And, when Thursday rolls around—or any day—they offer one of the best happy hours in Auckland. Shoot back (responsibly of course) $5 tequila shots, a jug of margarita for $17 or house wine or beer for a mere $5. A.mazing.
De Fontein is the perfect reason to knock off work a little early on a Thursday and bask in the afternoon rays. With views of Rangitoto and Mission Bay, nab a spot on their deck, and sip a wine or beer from five until seven.
We love Little Easy every day of the week, but even more on a Thursday. Yep, they have a great vibe and delicious bar menu, but they also serve up $10 cocktails! Situated on Ponsonby Road, there are seats inside or out—perfect for some people watching!
House wine, beers on tap, bubbles and sangria for only $6—yep you heard that right! Carmen Jones turns it on and, if you're feelin' peckish, you can nibble down a couple slices of pizza for five bucks. Baaaargain.
