Auckland's Getting A Lightpath Festival

The infamous pink walk has served us Aucklanders well as another fun thing to add on to our to-do list in this little big city. Whether you’re a biker or a walker, the Lightpath/Te Ara I Whiti has been enjoyed and Instagrammed at least once by everyone and we can’t imagine our city without it. Well, that pink bridge turns two this year and deserves some appreciation and celebration.

On Saturday, 2nd of December, Bike Auckland is hosting the Barfoot & Thompson Lightpath Festival! Canada Street will be transformed in to an open space of endless food from the hub of bomb tasting Asian cuisine—Mercury Plaza to local, indulgent sweet treats and live music from The K' Road collective, The Grow Room.

To make this night even better, there will be a festival parade launching with a waiata from Auckland’s Street Choir at Lightpath’s Canada Street entrance from 6pm! Paraders will be constantly entertained by the Caluzzi candyfloss drag queens, funky New Orleans-style jazz from the Auckland City Scoundrels and of course, more sweet treats.

The festival doesn’t just stop there guys. It’ll go on all night long with more surprises of art and culture to be found in every corner. Some of these include trick cycling, the Real Pyramid Schemer and stunning interactive installations—like Poi Magic by Mei Hill, Tania Remana, Olivia Haddon and Angus Muir and more.

Not only has the pink walk given us Aucklanders something awesome to do in those moments of ultimate boredom, but it acts as a reminder of the beauty in our city with the views Te Ara I Whiti provides. So come along and don’t hesitate to bring your bikes and take this as a chance to thank the Lightpath/Te Ara i Whiti!
