The weather is getting cosier and the days are getting shorter, but don’t worry because this week’s foodie news is the perfect little pick-me-up to get you excited for the seasonal refresh. This week there’s menu additions, fried chicken collaborations, a new champagne garden, and a whole lot of sugar and spice.

Here’s a round-up of all the foodie news you need to know. 

Free Cone Day

The beloved Ben & Jerry’s are back with their annual Free Cone Day once again. Continuing the tradition started in 1979, it’s Ben & Jerry’s little way of saying thanks for the support. On April 9th fans will receive one scoop on the house, with no limit on how many times you can re-join the line. Ben & Jerry’s will be scooping from 12pm-8pm at all four Auckland locations.

Pilkingtons Goes Bottomless

Bottomless brunch is never a bad decision. Shortland Street’s Pilkingtons will host their own boozy brunch on March 30th with UK sister DJ duo DIMPRI to loosen you up for an afternoon of sun, food, and bubbles. You will have the choice between three delicious main meals, and bottomless Graham Norton Prosecco, Gordon’s Pink Cocktails, or pints of beer. The brunch runs from 1 - 4pm, followed by a Sunday session ‘til 8pm. Bookings are essential so grab your tickets online now.

Andiamo’s Menu Gets A Seasonal Refresh

Herne Bay’s Andiamo Eatery has spruced up in time for autumn. The Italian-inspired eatery debuts oysters, pecorino, and speck croquettes in their antipasto selection, as well as a new bruschetta with pancetta, stracciatella, and shallot caramel. The prosciutto pizzette has had a makeover with bold new flavours taking over the spotlight. 

Burger Burger Turns Five

It’s been half a decade since Auckland’s love affair began with the good and honest hamburger joint. To celebrate the big day, Burger Burger is turning their fifth birthday into a four-week long soiree. Available on Fridays and Saturdays from March 25 to April 15 there is a special menu that features a Giant Birthday Burger—850 grams of free-range beef patty, cheddar cheese, free-range smoked bacon, and all the dressings. Served in a pool of shoestring and curly fries, Burger Burger encourages you to tackle it with friends or challenge yourself to the whole lot.  Available instore now on a first in first served basis.

Peach’s And Double Dutch

Who doesn’t love a good collab? Especially when it brings together two of the best things to come out of Auckland. Peach’s Hot Chicken teams up with Double Dutch Fries to form the deep-fried dream team. On April 13th the pop-up event will take place at Double Dutch on Hurstmere Road, serving up collabs of hot chicken and Dutch fries, as well as new menu items and Behemoth beer. Save the date for the one-day-only event.

Euro’s New Champagne Garden

The iconic Champagne house Perrier-Jouët joins Prince’s Wharf’s Euro Bar and Restaurant this April with a new and luxurious Champagne Garden. Throughout the month, Euro’s Champagne Garden by Perrier-Jouët will entice guests, reflecting the feeling of sipping on a flute of the Champagne. A dedicated Champagne menu will exclusively be on offer during the month, with cocktails and garnishes to enhance every glass.

Degustation At The Caker

The Caker is coming for your sweet tooth with their degustation events popping up this weekend. On March 29th and 30th you have the chance to try ten of The Caker’s signature flavours in one go. For $75 you’ll receive a slice of the black forest, lemon raspberry rose, blueberry rhubarb white chocolate, carrot pecan, plum lime coconut, espresso dark chocolate, peach passionfruit, almond butter raspberry, banana dark chocolate, and match cherry. Asahi’s Portal Tastings

In honour of the Japanese tradition, Fukubukuro, Asahi Super Dry hosting an #EnterAsahi portal outside Las Vegas Club on K-Road. From 12-2pm on April 4th, 5th, and 6th the chef behind the infamous Azabu and Ebisu will offer passers-by a taste of the new look Asahi AKAI DOA six-course meal launching at Las Vegas Club mid-April. The unique limited tasting follows Asahi’s stunt earlier in the month with poster portals containing gifts from Asics and Stolen Girlfriend’s Club.

Dairy-Free Halo Top Hits The Shelves

Halo Top is hopping onboard the dairy-free train. The dairy-free and vegan tubs will be available in sea salt caramel, toasted coconut, chocolate chip cookie dough, and caramel macchiato. The desserts are made with coconut milk, delivering the same creamy taste of regular Halo Top. Dairy-free tubs will be on sale at Countdown, New World, and PAK’nSAVE from April 1st.
