New exciting openings, new seasonal menus and new delicious products, Auckland is full of all of the foodie goodness this week. The big city has once again been kind to us, dishing up some delectable treats and exciting places to go and tuck in. There is a plant-based pop-up, 90's themed doughnuts and fresh wine flavours amongst the tasty line-up.
 
Here is all of the foodie news you need to know. 

Hawker and Roll Opens In Tauranga

The booming fast-casual Malaysian street-eats restaurant that is a favourite of many Kiwis has officially arrived in Tauranga. Hawker and Roll is a spinoff of the much-loved restaurant Madam Woo. One of the most popular dishes on their menu is the hawker roll which sparked the idea for the new eatery. Hawker and Roll have bought the unmissable street food experience to the all-new Observatory dining lane in Tauranga Crossing precinct. The signature dish that the restaurant is named after is a must—the flaky rot canai is filled with a selection of vegetarian, seafood or meat choices, and the menu features many other delicious items such as laksa, steamed dumplings and Malaysian nasi lemak. If you are a local or just visiting, get in there soon to see what all of the fuss is about.

The Newest Hunting Lodge Range

New Zealand family owned and operated The Hunting Lodge has expanded their wine range with brand new flavours and packaging. The latest range, Expressions, is all about celebrating the unique character of New Zealand’s most iconic wines. This big move from The Hunting Lodge is an effort to offer a premium price-pointed wine that is packaged consciously. The 100% recyclable labels and cartons are made from recycled material, showing that the company truly care about their environmental footprint. Expressions include four new bottles, Delicate Rose, Vibrant Sauvignon Blanc, Plush Pinot Gris and Silky Pinot Noir, which all have beautiful and individual looks as well. 

Auckland Airport Just Got Tastier

The Auckland International Airport terminal just got a whole lot better­ with Wondertree officially opening. The new restaurant offers somewhere to stop, recharge and soak up a sense of wellbeing while feasting on some delicious food. Whether you are after breakfast, lunch or dinner, there is refreshingly good food and drinks to fuel you up for all of your travel ahead. There are multiple different menus for different times of day, a kid’s menu, and vegetarian and gluten-free options. There is something delicious for the whole family, and the beautiful space will have you immediately relaxed in amidst the airport bustle. 

Kokako's Plans For The New Cafe

The well-known coffee gurus from Kokako are preparing to open their brand-new space where you can get your daily coffee fix. Commercial Bay in the CBD will be the new home to Kokako’s latest café come September. Featuring an espresso and soft brew bar, there will also be four dedicated taps with a nitrogenated cold brew and a rotating selection of other coffee related beverages which are for the moment, top secret. In more Kokako news, their long-time Grey Lynn Café is getting a new name and visual identity. After seven years, Kokako Café Grey Lynn will now be known as Postal Service. Different name but same fantastic coffee and service. 

The Newest Plant Based Pop Up

Here is one for all of the plant-based foodies to get excited over. Every Thursday from May 2nd to June 20th, The Midnight Baker will become host to the newest pop-up, Forest. Focusing on locally grown and wild plants, all the ingredients are sourced from local urban farms, grown themselves or foraged from around the city. The six-course menu will feature some new and unfamiliar dishes and ingredients, presented in creative and unique ways that you may have never seen before. Featured dishes will include choko with feijoa vinegar, kumara greens and pickled rosemary flowers, permission with pineapple sage and sapote custard amongst many other delicious creations. Be sure to book in for this different and delightful dining experience. 

Introducing Crowlers 

Fine Wine Delivery Co's idea to get rid of their plastic, single-use beer bottles was something that had been ticking away for a while and they have officially found the solution. Introducing Crowlers. We hadn’t heard of them either, but Crowlers are 946ml aluminium cans, that are purged for freshness, filled and sealed on the spot. Your beer will stay fresh for days after being opened thanks to the resealable lid, or for up to two weeks unopened. And, once you are all done the cans are fully recyclable. We love this move towards cleaner and greener companies, turns out you can have your beer and help the planet too. 

Krispy Kreme Are Throwing It Back 

The ultimate blast from the past, Krispy Kreme is throwing it back to the 90s and giving New Zealand a taste of delicious nostalgia. The throwback party range features four limited edition flavours, finger bun, fairy bread, cookie dough and brownie batter. As well as the delicious doughnuts, Krispy Kreme’s Instagram is turning into a 90’s inspired games arcade. Hop onto their page where you can play and win prizes and be sure to get yourself one of the special doughnut flavours whilst they are still around.

A New Autumn Menu At Hunting Lodge 

As well as releasing their new wine range, The Hunting Lodge is also bringing out its seasonal autumn menu, designed by Des Harris. Available every Saturday night through Autumn, the five-course meal is $75 per person and beautifully put together. Created around the pasture to plate and zero-waste ethos that The Hunting Lodge applies to the restaurant and wine production, the new menu uses plants and produce in season available from the onsite permaculture garden. Featured on the menu is the charred farm carrots with buffalo yoghurt, fennel seed dressing and cured pork cheek amongst other luxurious meals, bound to warm you up in the cooler weather.
