Sabato’s Great Annual Sale Starts Today
Known for their exceptional cheeses, deli meats and other delights, Sabato’s annual sale is on from today until Sunday. Nab a bargain or get your Christmas shopping done with selections of panettone, nougat, panforte, confectionary and more. Head to their Mt Eden store from 9am till 5pm Thursday to Saturday, or from 10am till 5pm on Sunday. If you can’t make it to the store, head to their website where you’ll find all the sale items available online.
The Hunting Lodge Opens A Lawn Bar
In collaboration with Liberty Brew Co., The Hunting Lodge has opened a new lawn bar. Here you can expect some serious summer vibes with a casual dining menu from chef Des Harris—think Kimchi hot dog, brisket rolls or even the loaded hot dog with dripping pale ale cheese sauce. Or, opt for an outdoor oven wood-fired pizza or indulge your sweet tooth with a s’more. As day turns into night, there’s festoon lighting and wooden tasting boards piled high with their Grape vs Grain tasting.
Fed Offers Christmas Meal Boxes
With Christmas a mere month away (we’re not sure how that happened) new meal delivery service Fed is helping make the day even better by doing all the cooking. The FEDSTIVE meal boxes feed either four to six people, or eight to ten people, and comes fully prepared—all you need to do is heat and serve. Inside the boxes, you’ll find a variety of canapes, mains, sides and salads. For dessert there’s coconut cherry and pistachio white Christmas rocky road, prune, sherry and dark chocolate truffles and mini Christmas tarts.
Morningside Opens A New Dining Precinct
There is no shortage of delicious food in the City of Sails, but—until now—there has been a shortage of options in suburbia. No longer confined to the central city, a new dining precinct has opened in Morningside and is set to be one of the hottest food and drinks destinations in Auckland. Close to Eden Park, it’s simply called Morningside and houses businesses, food hotspots, a tavern, a dessert bar and even a stunning new event space. Get all the deets here.
Josh Barlow Chats To The Urban List
Taking Auckland's foodie scene by storm, Josh Barlow was recently appointed executive chef of the iconic Sugar Club. He is brimming with personality and creativity and can often be seen on his Instagram foraging for food. But he also has a wicked sense of humour—such is his love for lasagne, he has a large tattoo of Garfield on his arm. The Urban List recently chatted with the 30-year-old chef about all things food, Auckland and the one skill everyone should master in the kitchen.
A Retro Eatery Opens In Kingsland
Found in the former Chicka venue, Arcade is both a social club and eatery. Here you’ll find arcade games, 80s vibes with sprawling murals and a high-quality menu of sharing platters, tacos, burgers, salads and sushi. Get all the details here.
Meatstock Set To Return In 2019
The festival carnivores live for is set to return in 2019. Meatstock hits Auckland February 16-17 next year, with some of the meatiest names in barbecue showcasing their wares. There will also be more than 50 teams from around New Zealand battling it out in the barbeque wars to win $12,000 in cash and prizes—as well as crowned best barbequer in Aotearoa. Butchers will go head to head to for the coveted title of New Zealand’s best butcher, too. Held at the ASB Showgrounds, tickets are available now.
Augustus Opens For Weekend Breakfast
Augustus Bistro has had its ups and downs lately, and Waiheke’s Mudbrick has stepped in to take over the helm. And now, they’re opening for breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings, from 8am till 11:30am. It will be served in the courtyard with Supreme Coffee and breakfast cocktails—and, your pooch is most welcome to join you. The menu includes ham and eggs on toast, yoghurt pannacotta and brioche French toast pudding.
St Kevin’s Arcade Gets A Christmas Feast Pop Up
The Cult Project hits Gemmayze St in iconic St Kevin’s Arcade this December with a delicious feast, tasty wines from Tincan Wines and great company to the backdrop of the sun setting across the sky. A One-Of-A-Kind Craft Bottle Shop Opens In Grey Lynn
If craft beer is your thing, then head to Vinegar Lane in Grey Lynn for a specialist beer shop and tasting room which recently opened. With fridges packed with the best beer from New Zealand and around the globe, they also have four rotating taps for take home bottle fills and onsite paddle tastings. Owner Rich Yong is on a mission to educate those wishing to learn more about the golden goodness and will host events and guided tastings with the breweries. Cheers to that.
