Nestled in the heart of thriving Kingsland, Citizen Park is a vibrant garden bar that nails the three essentials: atmosphere, food and service.
The space hails back to its former motorcycle shop days with bare flooring and exposed brick, and expands on the theme with mementos from days gone by—old bottles, childhood games you thought you’d forgotten and other bric-a-brac.
Inside, relax on a couch or sit at a table, but without a doubt, the best spot is outside in their covered beer garden. Filled with plants and fairy lights, as well as a separate bar, it will take you from day to night with ease.
While our team were already fans of Citizen Park, it was a unanimous pick for our Thursday lunch. We were slightly worried about leaving our newest team member Doug—a French Bulldog—at the office, so gave them a call to see if he could come along and yep, bonus points, because Citizen Park is dog-friendly too. They even gave him a small bowl of water when we got there.
And then, there’s the food. With both Southern and South American options, the biggest problem is deciding what to eat. We’re fans of their smoked BBQ pork ribs, tacos and Texan chilli dog, but can’t resist the ‘Nuff said burger’. Choose between a single, double and triple stacker (are you man enough?) for a totally guilty indulgence. But if you’re still keeping your healthy New Year resolutions, there are ‘Keeping It Green’ options that are waistline friendly—the Cobb has tomato, avocado, soft boiled egg, black olive, green scallion and tortilla.
For dessert, opt for an American float with whipped cream, or there’s Naughty But Nice options…but did we mention whipped cream?
While it’s often busy during the day, Citizen Park buzzes in the evening. Head there for Tuesdays’ Quiz Night (make sure you book first) or make it your go-to spot for meeting up with mates.
One thing’s for sure—we’ll be back.
