Don’t get us wrong—we love Auckland to death. So much so we’ve exhausted every brunch spot, hike, and hidden coffee nook. If you’re in the same boat and are dying for something new (AKA a barista who doesn’t know your order), we think it’s probably high time you gather the girls and get started on planning a Melbourne weekend.
Melbourne is home to a bunch of pretty awesome things. If you're a culture and foodie lover, we bet you're already well acquainted with the wonderland that is Melbourne: Kim Kardashian in graffiti form, epic laneways, some of the world's best brunches (here are our picks if you're wondering), and of course, great shopping, plus—invisible espresso martinis?! And now, a freakin' House of Dior exhibition! Seems like a perfect excuse to plan a trip, if you ask us. Psst—we're giving one away at the bottom of this article.
There’s no fashion house that holds as much influence as The House of Dior—it’s sacrilegious to refer to Dior as anything but iconic. Hey, even Yves Saint Laurent learnt his skill from Dior himself! Given such huge, undisputable influence on the fashion industry, it’s more than justified to freak out about this news: Melbourne’s National Gallery of Victoria is playing host to the extensive collection of the House of Dior’s revolutionary designs—The House Of Dior: Seventy Years of Haute Couture.
What can you expect? Other than a level of star-struck you didn’t know #fashun could deliver, the collection will be a celebration of Dior’s most iconic moments, including his famous New Look collection—which changed the entire fashion game in the 1950s, mind you—and present day contemporary designs we lust after. The pieces on display will hail from 1947 all the way through to current day masterpieces.
As well as 140 garments, you can expect sketches, photographs, haute couture toiles, and other archival material.
Pheww. Cue watching The September Issue on repeat until we can finally check out the exhibition!
PS—Qantas has some sneaky deals on flights right now—check their website out for the latest deals. Spoiler alert: the flight may be short, but the service is pretty epic. With 42 flights between Auckland and Melbourne a week, there are over half a million seats on offer! Plus, because us Kiwis are the second largest group of Qantas Frequent Flyers outside of Australia, they're always looking for deals to reward us!
