Hands up who loves a cheat meal?! Just as we suspected. If your favourite day isn’t cheat day, you’re obviously lying to yourself. We teamed up with the hungriest member of New Balance’s squad, Sarah Collier (aka the literal queen of cheat meals) to pick her brains on all things food related, because what else would we ask someone about?
Sarah teamed up with New Balance because just like avo and toast, they’re the perfect pair. If you’re into fitness but love a cheat meal, discovering Auckland’s best everything, and looking chic as hell while you do it, you’re going to love the new 247 from New Balance, which you can shop right here.
This is kind of like one big eavesdropping session, so if you’re into that, keep reading and find out what we spoke about.
Sarah, tell us a bit about yourself!
I’m 29 years old and a personal trainer at Les Mills Victoria Street. I love deadlifts, food, my partner Ollie and our little dog Maddie.
How often do you ACTUALLY have a cheat meal?
This actually varies—it depends how I feel. Sometimes once a month, sometimes once a week!
What does your weekly training routine involve?
I train five or six times a week. I don’t actually train anything crazy—I mostly train weights. The biggest thing for Ollie and I is we like to eat healthy outside of cheat meals.
What’s your favourite place in Auckland to enjoy breakfast?
Where was the last place you went out for dinner and what did you think?
You're meeting friends to grab some drinks, where do you meet them?
Probably somewhere like Sweatshop Brew Kitchen—I’ve always enjoyed it there!
When your friends visit Auckland, where is your first stop?
Depends what they’re after. I think the freakshakes at Crunch Tower Desserts & Drinks are pretty memorable and Giapo is always good for an artistic food experience. I also love Big Fish Eatery in Penrose for their fresh food and massive variety.
What’s the most extra thing you’ve ever eaten?
I once had a doughnut that was bigger than my head from Captain Donut in Kerikeri. And the other day I had bubble tea with my dog’s face printed on it from Regiustea in the CBD. One of my ‘extra’ memories is from Welly On a Plate. We went to Carrello del Gelato and they made us ice cream to look like hot dog and burgers, which I loved.
If you could eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Definitely pizza. You can put anything on a pizza!
Are there any foods you don’t like?
I hate olives and capers.
What’s in your supermarket trolley?
Depends what day of the week it is. We usually get a big selection: avocados, broccoli, chicken, steak, salmon, eggs and—my favourite—pickles! On cheat day I turn into a seven-year-old left unsupervised in the supermarket.
What do you do for relaxation?
For me, it’s probably working out. And I love a good spa!
