What you eat can determine the success of your weekend. That sounds dramatic we admit, but we’re all foodies deep down and let’s be honest, nothing makes us happier than a humbling plate of our favourite food. But when it comes to eating out, it’s even more important to get it right because sorry honey, we ain’t spending our hard earned mulah on an average meal.

This is why we’ve collated a list of restaurants and cafes that are sure to please. Whether you're dining solo, with the family or with your SO, these Auckland hotspots will leave you extra grateful that weekends are a place of indulgence. They are…Right?

Madam Woo

Takapuna

With an interior that oozes elegance and a menu fit for the finest of food connoisseurs, Madam Woo is the perfect restaurant to spice up your weekend. All puns aside, the food will literally set your taste buds on fiiire. From dumplings to aromatic curries and Madam’s famous beef rendang, the menu boasts the best of Chinese Malaysian cuisine. And for dessert? The crispy fried banana served with ginger nut ice cream is a must. So whether your weekend consists of family time, BFF time or beau time, Madam Woo is the surefire spot to knock everyones socks off. Pro Tip: Madam Woo take bookings for half the tables available and leave the rest open for walk in’s. So if your attempt at booking fails, just rock up and sip on a scrumptious cocktail at the bar while you wait. #everybodywins.

Bread and Butter Bakery & Cafe

Grey Lynn

The high walls and glossed wooden floorboards that grace Bread and Butter Bakery & Cafe make it the ideal spot for Sunday brunch. You’ll walk in and be greeted by the aroma of freshly baked bread and delectable sweet treats, meaning sticking to a diet is a tad difficult. But with a balanced menu offering a healthy quinoa and halloumi energy salad or a super porridge with organic grains, spiced apple compote, goji berries, almonds and whipped coconut yoghurt—well you might surprise yourself after all? What’s best, grab a loaf of the famous Swiss Loaf and you’ve got ya sammies sussed for the rest of the week!

Dos Amigos

Mission Bay

An incredibly popular choice amongst Mission Bay locals—it seems once you try Dos Amigos, you’ll return again and again! This funky restaurant welcomes diners to sit out on the veranda and enjoy their meal with a view over one of Auckland’s most glamorous spots. You’ll find this to be a date night hot-spot and so heads up, if smoochy couples ain’t your thing, make sure you nab a table inside. Word on the street is leaving here without ordering a plate of the famous nachos is like committing a felony. Served on a plate almost spanning the width of your table, these bad-boys are dressed with a meat of choice (or beans) and loaded with veges, cheese, sour cream and a whole lot of saucy goodness. Grab a margarita or three and indulge in a long somewhat boozy lunch of Mexican delicacies. Pro Tip: Arrive very, very hungry.

Gemmayze St

CBD

Tucked away in the crafty haven of St Kevins Arcade lies what may be Auckland’s most hidden gem, Gemmayze St. The menu boasts an extensive list of lebanese food...when you commit to dinner at Gemmayze St, you're sure to go all out! From your favourite hummus and baba ghanouj dips through to charred falafel and octopus ravioli—every order comes with a much-desired side of lebanese flat bread. This is a restaurant that’ll take you on a taste sensation, so be open to trying new things and we promise it won’t disappoint. What’s more, the dessert menu will have you wishing you lived in the Middle East. Our pick? The Gammayze Mess complete with pistachio, burnt white chocolate and passionfruit. This really is a dreamy spot for a Saturday date night before a trip to the cinema. Gold Class anyone?

Twisted Tomato

Point Chev

Twisted Tomato is a cafe you need to tick off the bucket list. Don’t let the humble exterior fool you, this cosy cafe has one of the greatest menus in Auckland. We can’t go past the wild mushroom on grilled polenta with a poached egg and blue vein and truffle sauce—hungry yet? If you're after something sweeter, how about the caramelised pancake served with toffee sauce, nut crumbs, fruit and a berry glaze. The menu is extensive so if you’re anything like us and are incredibly indecisive when it comes to feeding your hungry stomach, we recommend having a scroll through the menu online first. (Yep, people actually do that). So, complete your fabulous weekend with a family brunch at this Point Chev haven. You will not be disappointed.
