Takapuna’s just got a whole lot more ballin’ with a brand-spanking new Bedford Soda & Liquor. Found just off The Strand, follow the sweet, sweet smell of the world famous meatballs and treat yourself to a little slice of heaven.
Defying pretty much everything we’ve heard about sequels, Bedford Takapuna brings all that we’ve come to know, love and ‘gram to the Shore. The New York-inspired dig features a hip fit-out, a menu nothing short of an edible artistic masterpiece, and the ballin’ Bedford vibe you just can’t beat.
You’ll soon find yourself swooning over the bar and marveling as the staff work their magic. Led by the legend mixologist himself, James Miller, the team is always down for a bit of banter and a high five, “because handshakes are sooo last year.” Whether you’re gearing up for a big night out or just popping in for a quiet one, at Bedford, there’s space for all. Cosy up with your squad in a dedicated booth and share the iconic steaming copper kettle, soak up the atmosphere in the bar space with a bold and boozy Ellis Island, or take things to the outdoor atrium for a quiet one—over liquor-laden shakes, of course!
It’s the real deal folks, brought to you by long-time friends Jeremy, Matt and Sam, the terrific trio haven’t spared any expense when spreading the love to Shore folk.
“Bedford is a space to be social, have a good time with mates and enjoy a damn good drink,” laughs Matt. “We specialise in good quality, pretty things”.
Whether you’re in for a bite or a bevvy, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Bedford without their signature meatballs. Our pick would have to be the Beef Balls, seasoned to perfection with hints of oregano, thyme and parmigiano served on a bed of baby potatoes roasted to perfection and topped with a basil and walnut pesto. If beef ain’t your kind of balls there's also chicken, pork, lamb and vegetarian to choose from. Or, opt for the “special” chef’s choice—we’re told you won’t want to miss it!
Lest we forget the most important meal of the day—dessert! Definitely one for the foodie bucket list, the ballers have presented us with—dare we say—some of the best sweet eats on the Shore with their addictive Ferrero Rocher cheesecake. Served alongside a generous dash of signature Ferrero chocolate, you’ll soon find yourself making dedicated dessert trips just for another taste of the smooth and seductive treat.
Of course, we wouldn’t be true ballers if we didn’t talk about the drinks! One for when dull weather has you feeling a little grey, the Strawberry Americano featuring campari, sweet vermouth and spiced strawberry shrub is sure you perk you right up.
Need a mid-winter vacay? Bedford has the next best thing—sit back and sip on a When In Trinidad cocktail. It’s so good it’ll take you on a trip of its own, hosted by aged rum, angostura amaro, banana and a dash of lime.
Co-owner Matt’s pick is the hard hitting West Side Story. Every bit as exciting as it’s namesake, this bad boy features coconut infused rum, coffee bean, brown sugar and chocolate bitters, all served on a cloud of maple smoke (yes that’s possible and yes that’s a thing).
