Auckland was shaken up after hearing the ultimate foodie news of the year that top fine dining restaurant The French Café has recently changed hands. Sid and Chand Sahrawat, the masterminds behind two of the most renowned restaurants in Auckland, Sidart and Cassia are adding The French Café to their empire of eateries and they have finally given us some deets on their takeover.
Previous owners Simon Wright and Creghan Molloy-Wright have built a legacy of 35 years and Sid and Chand Sahrawat are well aware of the big shoes they have to fill. Now renamed Sid at The French Café, the Sahrawats’ have put an immense time, thought and effort into the new menus and, after months of careful preparation, they are ready to serve.
Sid and Chand Sahrawat are staying true to the traditional flavours found at The French Café and adding their own spin on things. The famous French Café classic beetroot and goat’s cheese tart is here to stay but will be taken up-a-notch with flavours crafted by Sid himself.
The new menu will also feature new creations from Sid with the help support of long-time colleague and chef, Lesley Chandra. Which includes a pomme soufflé, smoked yoghurt, onion and kale or scampi with leek, lovage and price or aged fillet of beef, charred parsnip, goat’s curd and cavolo nero, to name a few.
Sid at The French Café will be a mix of old classics and new creations so loyal French Café customers will remain pleased with the change of hands while offering a different experience for the next generation of diners in Auckland.
Business hours, menu options of degustation, vegetarian, a la carte, pricing and the stellar staff will remain the same at Sid at The French Café.
