If there’s anyone who deserves a holiday, it’s you. But there’s no need to jet off to faraway lands for va-cay vibes. Nope, your perfect holiday is closer than you think. In fact, it’s right here in the heart of Auckland’s CBD.

We are—of course—talking about Auckland’s newest (and coolest!) hotel M Social. Overlooking Waitemata Harbour, the Quay Street hotel is all about good times and good food. Best combo ever, right?

The hotel is the ultimate foodie destination with an on-site restaurant, bar and deli—aka Beast & Butterflies. Open to hotel guests and passer-by’s, the eatery showcases Asian food with a Pacific flair.

Serving mouth-watering eats morning, noon and night, it’s the perfect spot to get amongst an Auckland foodie staycation. Allow us to explain…

Wake Up To Brekkie In Bed

There’s no better way to kick off your staycation at M Social than with some well-deserved room service. Don your fluffy white robe, place your order and don’t go anywhere—breakfast is coming to you! Choose from the likes of kahawai kedgeree, poached pear or teriyaki pork brioche drizzled with yuzu hollandaise. Wash down with a silky smooth coffee and snuggle deeper into the blankets. Your staycation officially starts now.

Have Lunch On A Sun-Drenched Deck

Emerge from your slumber and head to the on-site restaurant, Beast & Butterflies. Nab a table in the modern eatery or opt to sit on the sun-drenched deck (our fave). Showcasing views of the Waitemata Harbour and bustling Queen Street, it’s the perf spot for a long lunch. The menu is jam-packed with fresh seafood (anyone for freshly shucked oysters and juicy king prawns?) as well as Asian fusion delights. Is this not the ultimate culinary pairing ever?!

… Or Grab A Treat To Go

Located a hop, step and a jump from the ferry terminal, M Social is the ultimate base for exploring wider Auckland. Grab your fuel for the day (aka food) from Beast & Butterflies’ deli before visiting the nearby islands of Waiheke, Tiritiri Matangi or Rangitoto. You’re spoilt for choice with takeaway salads, sammies and heavenly sweet treats. Pack a picnic blanket and you’re away laughing.

Afternoon Cocktails? Yes, Please!

Afternoon cocktails are totally a thing when you’re on vacation. Find a perch at the sprawling bar and sip your way through a cocktail (or two). There are pandan-infused espresso martinis, sesame piña coladas and an interactive “butterfly” gin-based cocktail. No visit is complete without experiencing “the beast”. Made with dry ice, the theatrical drink stars bourbon, bacon and cotton candy. Now THAT’S a cocktail.

Save Room For Dinner

The feasting isn’t over yet! When dinner rolls around, seafood and Asian delights make reappearances at Beast & Butterflies. Start with kingfish ceviche, beef carpaccio, shiitake gyoza and—of course—some more oysters. Move on to the likes of wok-fried noodles, seafood laksa and a scrumptious chili caramel ham hock. If you’ve got a hearty appetite, the shared plates will leave you full and satisfied—we love the charred soy-glazed chicken.

Sleep Off Your Food Coma Upstairs

Once you’re niiice and full (dessert obligatory), head to your oh-so-comfy hotel room upstairs. M Social is all about contemporary-chic rooms with all the trimmings—we’re big fans of the sweeping views of the harbour. And while these stunning rooms will tempt you into a staycation, you don’t need to be a guest to eat (and drink) your way through Beast & Butterflies’ menu. The restaurant-slash-bar welcomes both hotel guests and passer-by’s alike.
