How To Own Auckland In 48 Hours

In case you missed it, we’re pretty proud to call Auckland home. Our city keeps the good times coming with world-class restaurants, quirky cafes, boutique shopping and beautiful scenery. Seriously, what’s not to love?!

To help us own the city and all it has to offer, we teamed up with the stylish new Mitsubishi ASX. Navigating the city is a breeze with its smartphone connectivity, reversing camera and five-star safety rating. And guess what? We’re giving one away for an epic weekend.

Yep, you could be cruising around in style as you eat your heart out across Auckland. (Umm, can we please win?) To give you some weekendspiration, here’s how to own Auckland in 48 hours.

5pm 1947 Eatery

Congrats! You’ve made it to the end of the week. Time to celebrate, right? Right! Head to Federal Street in the CBD for a well-deserved cocktail or mocktail at 1947 Eatery. This spot is known for its authentic yet contemporary Indian eats and innovative drinks. Don’t leave without devouring the curry chips—aka fries topped with butter chicken sauce.

8pm Depot Eatery

Continue on Fed Street until you stumble upon Auckland’s much-loved Depot Eatery. There might be a bit of a wait getting a table at this popular restaurant, but we promise it’s 100 per cent worth it. Eat your way through oysters, clams and their famous Hapuka sliders. Head home to sleep off your food baby—you’ve got a big weekend ahead of you!

9am The Butcher’s Son

Good morning, Auckland! Buckle up in the Mitsubishi ASX and hit the road—you’ve got a fun day ahead and you want to get around in style. First stop? The Butcher’s Son in Herne Bay. The newly opened café serves up plant-based dishes in mouth-watering style. Think banana pancakes, pulled jackfruit tacos, beet patty burger and an impressive selection of smoothie bowls.

11am MECCA Cosmetica

Wander down Ponsonby Road and #treatyoself to a spot of shopping at the countless designer stores. Here you’ll also find MECCA Cosmetica, brimming with must-have beauty buys (go on, you deserve it). The swoon-worthy range includes everything from NARS and Stila to Too Faced and Diptyque.

1pm The Caker

Lucky for you, The Caker is open until the early arvo on Saturdays. The cute-as-a-button cake shop is adorned with all things pink—right down to the blush napkins. Made with love (and quality ingredients), the pretty-as-a-picture cakes are totally divine. Grab a minicake (or two) to go or opt for one of their fail-proof baking kits.

3pm The Pink Lightpath

A hop, step and a jump from K Road is the Instagram-famous Pink Lightpath. Zoom along the vibrant path on your bike or enjoy a leisurely stroll to Nelson Street. Only the coolest cities have magenta paths, amiright?!

6pm White + Wong’s

We hope you’re hungry because you’re in for a total feast at White + Wong’s. Sitting pretty on the Waitemata Harbour, this restaurant brings its A-game with Asian fusion street food. Start with dumplings, wontons and gua bao buns before moving onto moreish currries, roti rolls and an unmissable Peking duck. Sign. Us. Up.

10pm Giapo

There’s always room for late-night dessert—especially when we’re talking about Giapo. The Auckland fave serves next-level ice cream at its Gore Street parlour. Have yours served in a solid chocolate cup or go for the epic colossal squid. The innovative (and delish) creations also include ice cream with roti, Yorkshire pudding and Maori fried bread. We’ll have one of each, thanks.

8am Mount Eden

It’s Sunday morn in our beautiful city. Seize the day by jumping in the Mitsubishi ASX, connecting your smartphone and blasting some tunesss. Drive to Mount Eden for a morning stroll—and maybe even the sunrise if you’re early enough! It’s pretty darn breathtaking to see the sun rise over the Coromandel Peninsula as you take it 360-degree views of the city.

10am La Cigale French Market

After your early-morn cardio, refuel at La Cigale French Market in Parnell. The bustling market is jam-packed with baked goodies, artisan products, local produce and—of course—expertly brewed coffee. A special shout-out must be made to the freshly baked almond croissants.

12pm Osborne Lane

Head to the nearby suburb of Newmarket and the new boutique shopping precinct, Osborne Lane. Update your wardrobe at Twenty-Seven Names, Juliette Hogan, Kathryn Wilson and AS Colour. Pamper yourself with a brow shape and colour at OFF & ON followed by a blow wave at Dry & Tea. Finish with a late lunch at the newly opened Candy Shop café.
