For those a little impartial to perfectly crafted cocktails and good tunes, you’ll want to know about Fort Street Bar, Rich Heart.
The sprawling venue boasts multiple rooms. As you wander in off the street the walkway leading to the bar is artfully sprayed with graffiti, almost making you feel as if you’re walking through a Melbourne alleyway. Through the partition, you’ll find yourself in a dimly-lit room dressed in dark wood and vintage knick knacks. At the back of the room a secret bookshelf can open to reveal a courtyard. And then downstairs there is another large room suitable for private functions.
Owner Sai Hamsala certainly knows a thing or two about cocktails! It was just last year when he took out the Diplomatico World Tournament being named ‘the best bartender’ in the world. His menu, while a little intimidating, makes for easy reading thanks to each drink being broken up into categories: sweet, sour, refreshing, smooth and sharp and dessert.
The ‘Missionary Downfall’ is served in a tiki mug with Bacardi Carta Blanca, peach liquor, fresh lime and pineapple juice, mint and a dash of manuka honey. ‘Lost In Translation’ tastes like banoffee pie with its sweet mix of Kraken spiced rum, banana liquor, white chocolate, caramel foam and sprinkling of dark chocolate. Of course there’s beer, wine and standard pours on offer along with tasty bar snacks, too.
With a toe-tapping DJ line-up and an uber-cool vibe, there’s no doubt Rich Heart is going to become one of Downtown’s go-to bars. We’re already planning a night out with the intention of working our way through that cocktail menu—see you there!
