Back in early March, we brought you the news that the ultimate wine event—Winetopia—was coming to Auckland and now, finally, it comes to Shed 10 this weekend.
In this public wine tasting event, top New Zealand wineries will be showcasing their drops across the two days. There are three sessions to attend, each three-and-a-half hours long that will immerse you in all things vino.
But, what would great wine be without great food and great company? At Winetopia, there will be both! Not only can you chat to some of the world’s most renowned wine critics and learn tricks of the trade (like how to taste wine like a pro) from sommeliers and wineries, you can also share a drop with some popular Kiwis. Share a glass with Colin Mathura-Jeffree or hear from WORLD fashion designer Denise L’Estrange Corbit and MINDFOOD’s Michael McHugh’s adventures from around the globe. Other locals include Brendhan Lovegrove, Russell Brown, Shane Cortese and Verity Johnson.
And then, of course, there’s the food! For a complete experience of being ‘wined and dined’, there will be no shortage of tasty treats on hand. O’Connell Street Bistros’ Mark Southon will be creating a pork terrine, there will be Mahurangi Oysters served in a variety of ways, Japanese dumplings from Akemi Gyoza, award-winning Food Snob cheese and antipasto platers, cured meats, venison and Bennetts of Mangawhai will satisfy your sweet tooth with a selection of their finest chocolates.
And, if you still need some entertaining, each session is set to close with a bang! Get those dancing shoes on as Hopetoun Brown lights up the stage with Supergroove.
With 3,500 wine lovers expected to hit Shed 10 for Winetopia (R18 only), this weekend’s Winetopia is the perfect excuse (as if you needed one) to share a drop or two of New Zealand’s best wine, all while eating delicious food and being entertained. It’s a no brainer, really.
