Cat lovers, your dream café has arrived in the heart of Auckland’s CBD! BaristaCats Café has opened its doors and is the purrrfect destination for a lunchtime break. Inside and away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, just $15 will give you an hour to spend with 11 cats (from kittens through to adults). These felines will soothe away your worries as you enjoy a complimentary coffee provided by Auckland roasters Be.Specialty and a bite to eat if you’re keen.
This café is the brainchild of lawyer Julia Whitehead who, during a visit to Thailand, visited a cat café and wanted to replicate the idea in Auckland (as you do). Pitching her idea to the public, she ran a PledgeMe campaign and raised more than $15,000. Somehow (if you want something done, ask a busy person) she juggled her time to make her dream a reality.
All of the cats come from rescue centres and includes two gorgeous wee kittens and one big, white, lazy feline. While the café closes at 7pm, it doesn’t go to sleep—this is the cats home, after all. Don’t worry, they’re all set up with beds, climbing frames, private spaces and litter boxes.
But it’s not all about the cats—BaristaCats Café also serves food from Ginger Birds and Rocket Kitchen for those who need some more sustenance than cats and coffee. Purrrfect.
