Hey Billy, where have you been our whole life? That’s exactly how we felt when we made our way to Newmarket’s newest cafe, Billy. Overlooking the Domain, Billy is cool in an understated way, their food offerings are epic in a no-fuss way and their service is friendly but not in an overbearing way. Put simply: this is one cafe we would like to make our second home.
Light and airy, the floor-to-ceiling doors can be pulled right back, opening the whole place up. There’s large shared tables outside which are perfect for catching some rays. Inside, the industrial feel is muted by the white walls and titles.
Billy is a bit of a WIP (work in progress) at the moment. In the coming weeks their full menu is rolling out and we can’t wait. But for now their cabinet selection still makes for a worthy visit. There’s beautiful soba noodle salads, epic sandwiches and all of the sweet treats. You can’t go wrong with one of their homemade doughnuts. Looking like something out of The Simpsons, these handmade creations are perfectly chewy and sweet.
Their menu will feature some incredible takes on cafe classics, many with pan asian flavours—think Korean beef burgers or Kimchi tacos. Yes please. They’ll also have a chicken, mango and rice noodle salad along with some classics like chicken larb gai. Dine in or have them packaged up and toddle across the road to dine al fresco.
For brunch they’ll be serving classics like eggs on toast but what made our ears prick up is the mention of their breakfast burger. Breakfast and burgers are two of our favourite things and this one will feature a crispy potato rosti, bacon and eggs and of course hollandaise all sandwiched together. And it will be glorious, oh so glorious.
If quenching your thirst is a top priority, they’ve got you sorted. With three blends of Supreme coffee and as many grinders you’ll be happily caffeinated. They’ve got iced versions, too and six barrell sodas if you’re coffee’d out.
Pop Billy on your to-do list and watch out for their full menu launching very soon—we’re certainly counting down the days. It’s almost as exciting as Christmas and we’ll see you there!
