Auckland. Are you ready for this? An eatery dedicated entirely to fried chicken and beer has arrived. Just as awesome as you imagine, Chicka is set to be your one-stop spot for an epic night out. 

Found in the main Kingsland strip on New North Road, the space features a hip fit out. From a giant millennial pink cassette to neon lights, you’ll want to watch this space as it’s soon to be transformed into an '80s themed extravaganza. We all can thank owner Paul Anakakul for the Auckland's latest local legend, who’s worked tirelessly to bring us the glorious fried chicken haven we just can't do without.

With one of the most flavoursome menus in town, you’ll find your taste buds sensationalised with every bite. From the streets of Korea and Thailand to your table in Auckland, Paul has ensured all items on the menu are as authentic as can be. 

“We aren’t an Asian fusion eatery,” says Paul. “All of the dishes are the exact same flavorings you’ll find in the streets of Korea.” 

Now, let’s break it down. With seven types of Korean and three Thai fried chicken, you’re going to find yourself totally spoilt for choice. 

You can never ever go wrong with the Chicka original. Their classic Korean fried chicken is served up piping hot, golden and crunchy alongside three out-of-this-world sauces that are soon to be the talk of the town. 

Now here’s where the real magic happens: pair with a side of corn cheesy for quite possibly one the most foodgasmic combos ever. An ooey-gooey hot plate of goodness packed with corn, edamame bean, cheese, red onion, carrot and parsley, the key is to not dip, but wrap the stringy creation around your fried chicken. You can thank us later.

Paul's top pick is the Chicka wow wow. Enough to make you just salivate at the thought, just think gorgeous fried chicken smothered in a Thai curry sauce that’s a perfect blend of sweet, tangy and magic. Can you tell we’re a fan? Pair this gem with a somtumcorn, which is a refreshing bowl of corn, carrot, chili and tomato, marinated in fish sauce garlic and lime which is sure to add an extra wow. 

Feeling a little chicken? Not to worry, because the tender pork ribs are just as brilliant. Served in a cheesy fondue alongside corn, the pork ribs are marinated in an easily addictive bbq sauce so good, you’ll find yourself diving right in for more! (Don’t worry, there are gloves).

Along with deconstructed kimchi fried rice, and the insane pork belly ‘wrap me’ bulgogi, you’ll also find a side of fries, because what’s fried chicken without them? 

Beer lovers, you’re going to want to check out the epic Orion draft beer. One of the few still brewed in Japan, this gem is fresh crisp and is sure to hit the spot. Not a beer-head? Chow down alongside a bottle from their Soju range! 

Basically a gift from the cheat-meal gods, Chicka is an absolute masterpiece that’s set to have lines sprawling out the door.
