Found in Freemans Bay on the ground floor of the Lion/GHD building, Auckland’s latest foodie haven will no doubt have you falling in love at first bite.
The sleek modern fit out, decked with textures and faux fur, houses an innovative hub for Francesca Mazza and Aaron Carson, the duo behind it all. Acting as a test kitchen of sorts, Friday I’m In Love features an ever-changing menu as the team experiments with and discovers wonderful and whacky new foodie creations.
You’ll be swept off your feet when taking a step inside. Greeted by a sprawling cabinet bursting at the seams with cream buns, rocky road slices, pastry and sensational salads, it’s fair to say you’ll be spoilt for choice.
Our top pick from the current menu is the free shavocado. Pronounced ‘free-sha-vock-a-do’, the name pays tribute to the famous vine, however, this dish is no joke. Not your usual avo on toast, this bad boy features Mexican avocado smash on fresh sourdough, with chilli, lime, dukkha with black rice crisp. As stunning as it is delicious, we couldn’t help but sneak a ‘gram.
If you’re a sucker for a good eggs bene, the salmon benediction is for you. With two poached eggs on sourdough with hot-smoked salmon, seasonal greens, citrus, capers and a generous helping of hollandaise, it’s a foodie brunch-dream come true!
There’s even a little something for our herbivore pals! Named affectionately by Fran’s son, the eggplant fucotta stars a spread of three bruschetta pieces topped with eggplant caponata and ricotta on ciabatta.
As soon as we saw buckwheat crepe on the line-up, we knew this treasure was going to be a winner. Almost too pretty to touch, this beauty has yoghurt pannacotta, buckwheat crumble, poached pear and crepes to die for. For the ultimate berry blast, pair with the berry berry good smoothie—you won’t regret it!
With a focus on bringing whacky and wonderful creations to your table, there’s no doubt Auckland will be falling head over heels for Friday I’m In love.
