There’s a hip, cool new dude on the scene and he’s serving up some of the best eats in town. Perhaps the luckiest street in Auckland—Shortland St—is now home to the super-suave Hugo’s Bistro.

Featuring a slender, sophisticated and hip fit-out, our main man Hugo has spared no expense in bringing the best of the best for his customers. From beloved restaurateurs, Clare and Joost Van Den Berg, Odette Eatery’s big brother is bringing a sophisticated edge to Auckland’s bustling cityscape. A deeper colour palette and soft tones contribute to a distinctively masculine feel among the historic sites of Shortland Street and can be attributed to Clare’s exquisite taste and vision.

Expertly crafted by executive chef, Josh Kucharick, the menu draws a power combo of reimagined classics inspired by cuisines from across Europe. Offering both “Earlier’ and “Later” menu selections, you’ll find yourself spoilt for choice.

Feeling peckish? Take a seat in an intimate booth and start yourselves off with the meats, radicchio and mushroom. With a generous helping of appetising prosciutto, pickled mushrooms, shallots and radicchio, it’s the perfect kick-start your belly needs for the gloriousness to follow.

Our top pick is the indulgent sirloin, pasta, pistou and lemon. Featuring a thin sheet of pasta referred to a fazzaletto (which is Italian for handkerchief, FYI), tender sirloin and moreish pistou it’s sure to hit the spot.

A man of intrigue, you’ll want to try Hugo’s very own interesting spin on poutine. Featuring pork cheek braised and served with spätzle, a German drop pasta, cheese curds with heavenly apple and white wine gravy, it’s innovation at its tastiest. Another winner is the stuffed peppers. Jam-packed with goats’ cheese and almond, they’re the perfect sidekick to any delectable dish on the menu.

Stopping by for a cold one? Kick back at the stunning emerald green bar and let Hugo’s pals work their magic in the fully stocked bar. We recommend giving the hibiscus, lime and mint soda a try. House-made, refreshing and thirst quenching, we can’t think of anything better after a hard long day.

Hugo’s also serve up some of the best brews in town. Stop by during your daily hustle and pay resident master-barista-legend Charlotte Fitzgerald a visit. Brewing up a storm since she was 17, you’re sure to start the day with a spring in your step.
