Take a skip, jump and or hop up North and you’ll find the sweetest new opening, Magnolia Kitchen. Nestled in Sliverdale’s Township, this sweet-treat heaven has only been open a handful of days, and is already swarming with locals keen for a sugar fix washed down with expertly brewed coffee.

Some of you may already know of Bets Gee and her eye-pleasing creations. She started off in humble beginnings, each weekend piling her car full of cakes, macarons, fudge and other to set up shop at Hobsonville Market. After word got around, she was inundated with retail orders and finding it a tad difficult to do both,  the next logical step was to create a permanent home where she could cater to everyone… And we’re incredibly glad she did.

Said home is decked out in all things perfectly girly. Old crates have been transformed into a large jigsaw shelf that takes precedence of one side of this cute cafe. Vintage teacups, cake stands and cookie tins sit pretty within the nooks and crannies. The large table is cleverly recycled from old wooden doors and the cabinet is full to the brim with decadent goodies. Hanging from the ceiling are pillowy lampshades that resemble floating clouds designed by Bets good friends from Richard Clarkson Studio—the perfect touch to add a hint of whimsical charm.

Cake creations on offer change almost daily. Upon our visit there was a looming three tiered Vanilla bean cake, the fluffy inner stained thanks to the blueberry compote and finished with generous amounts of white chocolate drizzle. Dark Ghana brownie has flecks of strawberry throughout while the selection of homemade fudge will undoubtedly make you nostalgic.

Coffee here is Atomic and is great. And, if dairy isn’t your thing you must try Bet’s homemade cashew milk—it’s super creamy and delicious and we love the fact she uses the leftover pulp to create biscuits.

With the multitude of summer roadtrips already penciled into our calendars, we’re ecstatic Magnolia Kitchen has open its doors just in time. We’re claiming it as our most-necessary pitstop (even before petrol), but in all honestly we don’t even need an excuse to return… Wonder what the property prices in Sliverdale are like?...
