Auckland’s latest new opening is changing everything we thought we knew about Italian cuisine. Say ciao to Monzú, a restaurant that’s set to transform the way Auckland foodies eat.
Brought to us by renowned chef Gaetano Spinosa, Monzú can be found on Dominion Road. Featuring a hip, slick fit-out, diners are set to be whisked away to the streets of Napoli, Gaetano’s hometown for a taste of truly authentic southern Italian cuisine. Drawing inspiration from the flavours of his childhood, it’s easy to see the passionate Gaetano is excited to share his culinary creations with the foodie scene.
“This is the time in my life to make something that truly makes me happy,” says Gaetano. “I still feel like a child playing in the kitchen.”
After a lengthy career, Monzú is truly a project of passion. Along with longtime friend and kitchen-partner Faria Nascimento, Gaetano has ensured no two visits will be the same.
While there is an a la carte menu available, you’ll find you won't need it. With a focus on ‘giving the people what they want’ Gaetano aims to deliver an immersive dining experience discussing options with diners in addition to an ever-changing menu.
“Whatever you like, we are here to accommodate you,” says Gaetano. “I want to make every night about the diners. We are happy to cater to any requests.”
So what can you expect from a true taste of Italy? One not to miss is the O Rraù, a traditional slow-cooked beef-style stew dish that will have you falling head over heels for it at first bite.
Or if, like us, you can’t look past a big bowl of pasta, the gnocchi con crema is for you. A mammoth sized serving of creamy homemade gnocchi infused with black truffle, this bad boy is big enough to share! Or not.
With nothing but masterpiece leaving the kitchen and no one night the same, Monzú is a new concept restaurant that’s set to take Auckland by storm.
