Thanks to this new Ponsonby eatery you can now say goodbye to all those well-known lunchtime woes. You know the ones we’re talking about: “I want to eat healthy”, “I only have five minutes to grab a meal”, “I don’t want to spend $30 on lunch”, “I don’t have time to make my own lunch”. Yup, been there, done that. We’ve all said them.

The concept behind the new gourmet salad and sandwich bar has been making waves overseas and now its finally made its way to our shores—hurrah! Enter Ponsonby’s newest hidden gem: Pintu.

Tucked in Lot 3 (entrances from Mackelvie Street or Richmond Road) you’ll find one good-looking eatery. Polished concrete, hanging lights, flashes of greenery—the interior of Pintu is as modern as its menu.

You’ll be greeted with a large cabinet that houses ingredients destined to partake in the create-your-own salad option. Take a form, tick your choices from leafs, protein, toppings and dressings—a clever way to cater to the fussier eaters amongst us.

Alternatively try the carefully curated options on the menu. The chipotle chicken number is a substantial mix of baby cos, corn, capsicum, avocado, beans and crushed tortilla chips with perfectly tender chicken sitting pretty on top. There’s a pulled chicken option, enticing with its Asian accompaniments. And for the vegos there are plenty of options. We love both the roast pumpkin and halloumi offerings.

Pintu’s sandwiches are generous and equally tasty. We sampled the Angus beef featuring perfectly toasted artisan bread and melt-in-your-mouth, slightly pink sirloin. It was partnered with spinach, caramelised onion, lashings of provolone cheese, Dijon and aioli. A+ will trade again.

The coffee is spot-on, and the house-made cold-pressed juices and smoothies are exactly what you need to gain strength to get you through the working week.

I’m also told Pintu is in the market for some scooters, so they’re able to deliver to surrounding areas. So really, there’s no excuse for bland, unhealthy or boring lunches anymore. I suggest you make Pintu your go-to. I’m just hoping they open one in every suburb, quick smart.
