Just when we thought Smales Farm couldn’t get any better, the team behind Billy Cafe has set up shop with a brand spanking new restaurant.
You’ll find Soho located on the ground level of the B:HIVE building. The industrial fit-out features exposed pipings with navy hues, wooden textures and nods to Thai culture throughout. For co-owners Poom Saengngam and Jenny Hongthong Soho is an exciting new venture that allows them to unleash their flare for fantastic food in full force. Like Billy Cafe, we have no doubt this spot will win over the hearts of Auckland foodies.
“We just want to cook good food and create a good vibe,” says Poom. “We want to serve Aucklanders only the delicious.”
The menu, crafted by Jenny, is a culmination of both Thai classics and modern re-imaginings with touches of Chinese fare throughout. Boasting small plates, woks, dishes to be shared and dessert, it offers something for everyone.
A staff favourite, the BBQ pork belly skewers are not to be missed. The sticky and sweet skewers are served atop a snow peanut labneh which perfectly compliments the seductively fatty meat. Topped with a refreshing mung bean salad, they’re sure to be an instant hit.
Or, opt for the duck sliders. Served in pairs, think brioche buns encasing tender rotisserie duck fillet, house pickled duck liver parfait and fresh herbs.
Deem yourself a pad Thai aficionado? Soho’s take on the classic is a must-try. Fresh from the wok, oodles of noodles are tossed with beans and peanuts then loaded with king tiger prawns, dried shrimp and bean sprout. It ticks all the boxes.
Branch out of your comfort zone and order the roast beef shin marrow. A signature dish for the new spot, the pieces of marrow come topped with Panang braised beef brisket, sprinkled in nasi lemark dukkha and served alongside cucumber salad.
The house signature massaman will whisk your tastebuds away to the streets of Bangkok. Aromatic, hearty and warming, the curry features succulent lamb, kumara, peanut and shallots and is served with flakey roti bread. It’s the perfect Winter warmer for the upcoming months.
The cocktail creations are also not to be looked over. Crafted to reflect authentic Thai flavourings, each creation is unique. Our top pick is the pandan margarita, served in a traditional Thai cup, it's a refreshing blend of tequila, Cointreau, house-made pandan syrup, and lime juice.
