If you’re as smoothie bowl obsessed as we are—and really, who isn’t—then you’ll be thrilled to hear that Takapuna’s latest gem, The Smoothie Bowl, is serving up...well, smoothie bowls! Yep, they’ve got all the colourful, slurpable goodness you can imagine.
The small but bright and breezy store is situated in Hurstmere Road, right next to popular and delicious Bondie Designer Cupcakes. There are a small number of outdoor seating options for you to soak in the sunshine as you eat.
The Smoothie Bowl is the brainchild of Brooke Manukau and Sly Natty, and both are ecstatic about their new opening. Both being passionate about health, fitness and conscious eating (they already own and manage CrossFit Infinite in Wairau Park), The Smoothie Bowl is their chance to let their love of healthy and delicious food shine.
“On a recent trip to Brisbane I was taken away with how many spots there were dedicated just to smoothies, bowls and juices” says Brooke. “I started thinking it was a shame it hadn’t taken on as quickly here.”
And so, instead of waiting for someone else to do it, Brooke thought it might be a bright idea to just open one herself—and bingo, she was right!
Their high-powered blenders are whizzing up a myriad of seriously tasty treats. Most have a base of coconut cream, chia seeds and fruits, and each is flavoured with different ingredients and topped with ‘Pure Delish’ granola, toasted coconut and plenty of fresh fruit.
The Blueberry Peanut Butter Protein Smoothie Bowl’s name suggests it all. The bright blue liquid is topped with tropical granola and plenty of chopped nuts.
Or, opt for the bright green concoction—so coloured because of the nutrient-heavy spirulina.
If you prefer to use a straw over a spoon we suggest the Fresh Greens Smoothie, which is jammed packed spinach and naturally sweetened with pineapple, banana and passionfruit.
The Smoothie Bowl is a welcome addition to Takapuna’s offerings and the perfect pit stop before or after a leisurely stroll along one of the best beaches in Auckland. Now, if only they make like Brisbane and open one in every suburb…
