So without further ado here are the best new restaurant and foodie openings in Auckland, as well as a li'l peek at what's coming soon. After more new openings? Check out the essential food news.

Now Open

War Pacific Island Fusion, Parnell

Tucked away above Parnell Road, you'll find War Pacific Island Fusion. Here, traditional Fijian cuisine gets a thoroughly modern makeover, resulting in incredible fusion-style dishes that you won't find anywhere else in Auckland (and arguably, the country)—served with a generous sprinkling of island flair. A humble fit-out featuring Fijian-themed artwork and artefacts lays the canvas for a vibrant feast that includes smoking cocktails, smoking (not to be confused with smoked!) fish, and more. Check out the full War Pacific Island Fusion review here.

Ember Restaurant And The Aviary Bar, Auckland CBD

Introducing Ember And The Aviary, a brand-new restaurant and bar newly opened in Auckland City's Grand Millennium Hotel following its recent $30m upgrade. Be enthralled by the ambience of The Aviary—located in the grand atrium where the talented bartenders create delectable cocktails with clarified plant-based milks and creams. Esteemed New Zealand Chef James Kenny and head chef Aaron Hyett infuse their experiences training and working abroad into their creations. The menu draws inspiration from multiple cuisines, including Greek, Spanish and contemporary European dining. For everything you need to try, click here.

Bianca, Ellerslie

Ellerslie's just scored a legit new spot for exceptional pasta and other Italian delights. Meet Bianca—helmed by renowned ex-Cotto and Ada Chef Hayden Phiskie—which is slinging outrageously good pasta dishes like a rich pork shoulder ragu mafaldine and a delicate ricotta-filled ravioli.

This stripped-back aesthetic featuring a clean fit-out and semi-open kitchen pairs perfectly with the food, which adopts the same no-fuss approach. Beyond pasta, Italian delights like housemade focaccia and delectable desserts such as a chonky cannoli and an incredible tiramisu tart are also highlights. Go here for our full review on Bianca.

Aryeh, Piha

One of the absolute jewels of the West Coast has received an elevated dining experience in the form of a brand-new restaurant Aryeh. The brainchild of renowned chef and hospo visionary Lucas Parkinson, Aryeh is his first Auckland restaurant having helmed the lauded Ode restaurant in Wānaka.

Transforming the former Piha Cafe, Aryeh is the ancient Aramaic term for lion, paying homage to Piha's iconic Lion Rock and promising a dining experience that will set your taste buds roaring. From wild and premium proteins, sustainably sourced seafood, hearty organic vegetables, and an out-of-this-world stock that has been repurposed for an impressive seven years, this spot will blow your socks off. Scope our full Aryeh review.

Anise, Eden Terrace

Sid and Chand Sahrawat's latest venture Anise has already carved its way into the spotlight, earning a well-deserved spot at the forefront of Auckland’s best restaurants. At Anise, the food centres around not one, not two but a myriad of Asian cuisines—Pan Asian if you’d like us to put a name on it.

As a result, the menu oozes excitement, giving subtle nods to a rich tapestry of traditional flavours from the East, wrapped up in the most picture-perfect settings. From deliciously diverse cocktails and incredibly moreish snacks to impeccably-plated mains, concluding with a show in the form of a hot ember and a lemon and sake tart, head here for the full Anise review.

Tala, Parnell

Date night just got a whole lot more delicious with the uber-chic Tala, Parnell’s hidden gem, opening its doors and slinging sleek, contemporary yet traditional Samoan fare. Perch by the bar and get a full view of the Umu—a traditional Samoan open-fire oven—or nestled in the banquettes for a more intimate, but just as fabulous dining experience.

You won’t find traditional courses here. Rather, a bookmark of foods you can expect in your sitting. Fun comes in the form of raw ramen. Like the two-minute noodle packets you’d gnaw on as an impatient kid, only made light and air-whipped, crunchy, and topped with a few veggies and savoury sauces. Or how about a whole fried, but very chic, Kaleve fish? Island-style with its own gravy and totally boneless? Hungry for more? Check out the full Tala review here

The Nightcar, Auckland CBD

The Nightcar is the answer to Aucklanders' prayers: generous late-night opening hours, stackable portions, exquisite Chinese cuisine, a champagne trolley, and a wine and cocktail list as meticulously crafted as its sleek interior. Oh, and nestled away from plain sight in the heart of the city.

Noodle hankerings are covered—chicly—with small cold and noodle dishes that are encouraged to pair, or top with their smaller plates. Chomp away on thick sweet and savoury noodles or gooey and savoury Gan Lao Mian, heavenly duck spring roll cups, and vegetable dishes that are far from boring.

And for the final touch? Everything, from cocktails and wines to sweet and savoury are listed in order of gentle to punchy flavours—the lifehack we didn't know we needed. Slide over to our full Nightcar review here.

Itameshi, Grey Lynn

If you're after something very special to tickle your taste buds we have three words for you: Italian Japanese cuisine. Yep, modern eatery Itameshi has just landed in Grey Lynn and its name means Italian Japanese, whose fusion vibes are currently blowing up around the world. The restaurant is making its debut with a brunch menu to froth over, with a top-tier dinner service to follow. For now, expect creamy umami mushrooms, marinated egg on miso avocado toast, curry udon with roasted vegetables, ultra-light matcha green tea hot cakes and that's just for starters. Scope our full Itameshi review here.

Osteria Uno, Birkenhead

If there's one food we could live on for the rest of our lives, it's pasta. And there's one spot that's currently doing this carby cuisine better than the rest. We're talking about Osteria Uno, a charming new Italian eatery from hospo dream team Jordan and Sarah MacDonald, which has recently opened in Birkenhead. Located inside what was originally a butcher's shop (and incorporating a number of features from that era into an effortlessly cool new fit-out), the aim is to offer delicious and affordable Italian fare that can be enjoyed by the whole family—headlined by Italy's most famous food of all, pasta. Find our full review, images and opening times here.

Metita, Auckland CBD

Culinary mastermind, Michael Meredith, is back with his third venture, Metita—a Pacific-inspired restaurant named after his late mother, who taught him everything that he knows. Metita has brought its reimagined Pacific cuisine to the heart of SkyCity in the spot that used to be Gusto at The Grand. The menu is a masterpiece filled with delectable delights, made from fresh, flavoursome ingredients showcasing Pacific fare at its finest. While the fare is inspired by Samoa (where Michael grew up), it’s not traditional Pacific food as you know it. It's reimagined with a modern twist to showcase what can be done with Pacific flavours. With an extensive drinks menu to match, Metita is certainly a must-visit! Check out the full Metita review here.

Bonita, Ellerslie

Bringing Korean and Spanish sensibilities to a sleek Ellerslie bistro, Bonita dishes up a new level of food obsession. Think succulent steak with doenjang butter, creamy sheets of pappardelle dripping with mushrooms, Bo Ssam pork with jalapeno. Its take on tapas comes by way of a delectable raw fish, topped with crispy potato shreds over radish kimchi and the most light yet crispy pork dumplings with a fine salsa (!). Or perhaps wagyu tartare rice-tostada bites with capsicum and grated egg yolk tickle your fancy? One look at their drinks menu (or prosecco, cocktail and quirky sangria-filled taps) and the obsession intensifies: from beer to soju, natty wines to classics from Spain and near, or best white Sangria in Auckland (hello Aloe, Green Apple, Elderflower and Soju). Get the full lowdown here.

Gilt Brasserie, Auckland CBD

One of the most highly-anticipated new restaurant openings of the year has come to fruition. Gilt Brasserie by Josh and Helen Emett is a European-style Brasserie nestled into the corner of Chancery and O’Connell Street. Inspired by the European dining scene, you can indulge in hearty unpretentious food any time of the day. Think triple cheese souffle, pork & duck bolognese, crumbed lamb cutlets, and a dessert menu to die for. Head here for the full write-up including opening times.

With retro-futuristic vibes, freshly pressed apple juice with your choice of spirit, singalong vibes and room for all the crew, this will be your new fave hang. Scope our full review for all the deets.

Broke Boy Taco, Mount Albert

Auckland’s most generously filled tacos—and a secret comfort food menu item found nowhere else in the nation—will officially have a permanent home in Mount Albert’s strip from Wednesday, 18 October. You'll no longer need to chase Broke Boy Taco around town for a taste of their signature ultra-loaded birria tacos left, right and centre (which also happen to be naturally gluten-free). Get your hands on a secret pottle of ramen absolutely dripping in cheese, birria beef and a savoury broth. So secret that you won’t find it on the menu—you’ve got to ask nicely for this. Throw in a bottle of special Mexican Coke (you’ll taste the difference—trust us) and boy oh boy you’ll be set. Scope the full Broke Boy Taco review for all the delicious details.

Baby G Burger, Avondale

After years of smashing and serving up its beloved burgers at pop-ups around the city, Baby G Burger has finally opened its 15-seater pattie place after months of self-renovation and hard graft. On the menu? You'll be pleased to see the queue-inducing Oklahoma Dreaming burger leading the charge. Crispy around the edges and somehow still juicy, this burger boasts two smashed onion patties, lashings of mustard mayo and hot sauce, a drizzle of maple syrup, slices of American cheese and if that wasn’t already enough, bread and butter pickles. Phew. Check out Baby G Burger's full review.

Expect a mix of classic doughie creations, along with those paying homage to Matilda's Singaporean heritage (also referenced by their popular ube and pandan kaya cakes, available here by the slice). Find our full review, images and opening times here.

Tacoteca, Auckland CBD

A vibrant new eatery has joined the familia at Auckland's City Works Depot, bringing with it a drool-worthy line-up of authentic Mexican tacos, margaritas, and other delights. Taqueria /cantina /tortilleria, Tacoteca deals in sublime guacamole and corn chips with grilled pineapple and charcoal oil, queso fondue and tacos dripping with juicy fillings like 12-hour slow-cooked lamb, grilled market fish, and even beef slow-cooked in pork confit. And let's not forget about the dedicated Margarita menu with drinks spiked with everything from plum wine and tamarind syrup to coconut liqueur and chilli and even a non-alcoholic number. Scope the full Tacoteca review and opening times.

Milford Motel, Milford

Bringing a slice of Palm Springs paradise to the North Shore is the brand-new Milford Motel. With the likes of beef cheeks and jalapeno and red pepper queso with corn chips to dip in, and practically perfect lychee pornstar martinis on offer, we don’t think you’ll find it hard to settle in here. And with sunny weather on the horizon, making use of Milford Motel’s outdoor area is a must. With palm trees scattered around the perimeter and signature Cali dusky pink paint adorning the walls, snag a spot under a fringed umbrella, order in an Aperol and unwind in this pocket of paradise.

Nene Chicken, Auckland CBD

It’s the viral South Korean fried chicken franchise that’s taken the world by storm one crispy wing at a time, and now it’s our turn to sink teeth into the delights of NeNe Chicken as it's just opened its first NZ branch on Auckland's Queen Street. Home to crispy, crunchy and flavourful fried chicken available in a dizzying array of flavours including snowing cheese, garlic and the devilishly intriguing 'freaking hot' with an irresistible menu of sides to match with an honourable mention going to the tornado potato (you have to see it to believe it).

Tappo, Auckland CBD

If there’s one thing Auckland can never have enough of it's wine bars and, with the arrival of the new hip vino hangout Tappo, Christmas just came early. With the team behind Pici and Ooh-Fa at the helm, your sipping activities are in the safest hands at this new Karangahape Road drinking destination. The small space boasts organic and biodynamic bottles from Aotearoa and Italy, allowing guests the chance to explore varieties not often found in other bars. If you have a booking at Pici across the way (lucky you), feel free to finish your wine at the restaurant or, if you’re just after an accompanying snack, Tappo has a small menu of light bites where Pici’s famous olive oil cheesecake makes a welcomed guest appearance.

Daily Bread, Britomart

Daily Bread has returned to Britomart in a big way. A huge (read: 300sqm) mega bakery-come-eatery, complete with its own a la carte menu and the capacity to seat almost 150 people has recently opened on Galway Street and it's the stuff of brunching dreams. All the usual suspects are here alongside delights such as beef bulgogi subs, mushroom toasties and ALL the pies. Don't leave before trying the truly life-changing Kaya french toast—slabs of toast topped with coconut jam and parmesan. Ooft.

Broadway Food Company, Papakura

Tucked away off Papakura’s Broadway strip is Broadway Food Hall, a hidden gem with six authentic artisan cuisines (and counting) and the most roomy dining verandahs in town. Many of the vendors here started out as food trucks, so rest assured that each dish is unique, authentic, loaded with premium ingredients and made with lots of aroha. From fresh-off the coals smoked meats (one whopper even being dubbed the Dino Bone) to fried chicken, bountiful smashed burgers, succulent kebabs, doughy and cheesy Turkish loaded pides and velvety curries—there’s absolutely everything here. Best of all, the hall opens up to The Beer Spot and its endless array of brews to enjoy a little tipple while you feast. Check out Broadway Food Co's full review along with images and opening times.

Dulcie, Devonport

Elevated daytime dining meets sprawling harbourside views at Devonport’s new darling, Dulcie. You don’t know scrambled eggs until you’ve had their version, topped with Canterbury truffle shavings or perhaps Saag style creamy spinach and curry leaf — all on top of Daily Bread sourdough. Which, might we add, you’ll find their pastries and doughnuts in Dulcie’s pastry counter. More of a sweet tooth? They make—hands down—the most pillowy stack that absorbs the blueberry compote and whipped coconut like it’s nobody’s business. The cherry on top? There’s a neat little wine list to enjoy, because let’s face it, a glass of bubbles in-hand is a must when staring out over the Waitematā Harbour. Scope the full Dulcie review and more images.

Tempero, Auckland CBD

As one door closes, a delicious one opens. Taking residence in the gone-but-never-forgotten space of former beloved bar Peach Pit is Tempero—Auckland’s brand new Pan-Latin bistro and bar. Meticulously and deliciously melding together flavours and influences from Brazil, Mexico, Portugal, Peru (and then some), chef Fabio Bernardini and his tight-knit team have created an intimate space where authenticity shines and dishes delight. Think Brazilian bite-sized bread morsels stuffed with cheese, sweet yet smokey crispy black-eyed pea cakes (acarajé) stuffed with okra and palm heart and smooth passionfruit mousse to finish. Check out our full write-up here with images and opening times.

The Breakfast Club, Pt Chev

Like your pancakes saucy, your croffles fully stacked, and your thickshakes bursting with personality? Look no further than the bold, bustling new brunching sweetheart of Point Chevalier: The Breakfast Club, the brainchild of Slow Lane’s power couple. In diner-meets-cafe fashion, expect quirky takes on classic brunch fare. Like shakshuka-esque cheesy, chicken Meatball Medley, Eggs Benny with an impossibly crispy yet unctuous rosti, croffles topped with Nashville chicken or brulée bananas. Or perhaps pillowy stacks of chocolate, matcha or berry pancakes—all washed down with inventive shakes (hello PB&J gooeyness) or zingy homebrew sodas? Scope out our full Breakfast Club review along with images and opening times.

Everyday Coffee, Sandringham

A brand new coffee shop has just joined the Sandringham cafe roster, bringing a taste of Melbourne coolness and caffeine to this lucky Auckland ‘burb. After spending 13 years in the Aussie coffee capital, Sarah and Janusz Choromanski decided to open Everyday Coffee back home in Auckland, providing a cosy, homely nook where visitors can grab a great coffee and unbeatable bagels (think classic fillings such as lox, pastrami and cream cheese) alongside Daily Bread pastries and Allpress beans. The effortlessly simple yet stylish hangout plays host to industrial and retro furnishings, not to mention walls adorned in classic vinyl sleeves, with just enough leaners to pull up a pew and feel like a local.

Chao Canteen, Ponsonby

If you already struggled to choose a place to eat in Ponsonby Central, the new eatery Chao Vietnamese Canteen is about to make that decision even harder. Adding to their Mission Bay digs and serving up an array of authentic menu items, there’s something to satisfy all belly rumblings and cravings. Those looking for a fresh, light and flavourful feed can choose from the likes of vermicelli noodle salad or summer rolls, whereas those with comforting cravings have bahn mi and pho noodle soup to choose from. Whichever way you’re swaying, enjoy the perfect blend of authentic and forward-thinking flavour combinations from your new Ponsonby central go-to.

Aigo, Newmarket

What’s better than one Aigo? Why two, of course. The beloved brainchild of David Lee has just opened a new outpost in Newmarket, following the success of its Ponsonby Road restaurant debut in 2022. Now, diners have twice the chance of securing a highly coveted table in Auckland, where flavourful Korean-inspired fare awaits. While many of the beloved original dishes remain the same across both venues (hello spicy tuna tartare on crispy rice), the recently opened Newmarket restaurant will also unveil new menu offerings featuring the likes of pancetta rose tteokbokki for guests who can’t get enough of Aigo’s chewy, flavourful rice cake noodle dishes.

DOE Donuts, Auckland CBD

DOE Donuts has expanded its dough-licious hot pink empire with the opening of a second branch in Commercial Bay. Since launching the brand's first bricks and mortar store in Grey Lynn in 2021, the brainchild of Grace Tauber and Shenine Dube has seen queues out of the door on the reg. Just like the OG shop, you can expect a rotating selection of flavours ranging from straight-up cinnamon sugar, vanilla glaze and jam and cream through to more experimental offerings like tiramisu, key lime pie and PB&J—along with cookies and coffee.

Khu Khu, Milford

Attention North Shore peeps, cult vegan Thai restaurant, Khu Khu, has opened a second location in Milford, so you can fill your face with delicious vegan fare to your heart's content. After making waves in Ponsonby, owner Michael Khuwattenasenee has teamed up with his longtime friend, Alex Huo, to make their mark on the North Shore and our taste buds couldn’t be happier. Few places do Thai food as tasty as this one. Think drunken 'duck' noodles—spring rolls stuffed with purple kumara—and juicy 'pork' belly slathered in garlic black pepper sauce. They also offer a rather lush line-up of desserts, including a creamy pandan-flavoured cheesecake and piping hot date pudding, plus some tasty tipples including a DIY gin and tonic. Check out our full write-up here with images and opening times.

Sneaky Snacky Donuts, Auckland CBD

Turns out that what we thought was going to be a second Sneaky Snacky eatery is in fact a Sneaky Snacky donut shop, and we couldn't be happier (you did hear us say the words donut shop, right?). The whole thing makes total sense when you think about it, given the fact that these guys are low-key famous for serving the burgers at their K' Road resto on donuts instead of regular burger buns. This delicious new spot at 35 High Street is now officially open for business, and by that we mean a cabinet laden with mouthwatering doughies in flavours like Biscoff, PB&J, Oreo—and even savoury options like cheese and hot chicken (nods to their burger-shop roots, no doubt). See you in the queue.

Cassia At SkyCity, Federal Street

You just can’t keep a good restaurant down. Following repeated floodings at its Fort Lane digs, Hospo royalty Sid and Chand Sahrawat have decided to up sticks and move their multi-award-winning restaurant Cassia to a brand new location on Federal Street. Taking over a permanent spot in the bosom of the SkyCity precinct that was once The Grill, expect the same staff, gorgeous attention to detail, elegant furnishings and of course, an innovative menu that's constantly pushing the boundaries of traditional Indian Cuisine. The team have even brought over their charcoal-powered tandoors, which are essential to producing authentic flavours. Scope out our full review along with images and opening times.

Hi Toastie, Auckland CBD

If there's one thing Kiwis love, it's a good old-fashioned toasted sandwich. And putting an exotic spin on this classic treat is a newbie to the Auckland food scene, Hi Toastie. This cute spot—located inside a shipping container on the corner of Elliot and Victoria Streets in the CBD—is bought to us by brothers Harry and Blues Shim, who have come up with a short but sweet menu of uniquely flavoured toasted sammies inspired by their time living and travelling throughout Asia. There's a French toast and kaya jam number drawing inspo from Hong Kong—a Korean version stuffed with bulgogi, cabbage, and a fried egg—and several more.

Somm, Auckland Viaduct

What if we told you the city’s first urban cellar door and wine bar has just opened in an epic location on Auckland’s waterfront? Named Somm (after the French term sommelier, meaning 'wine steward'), this chic new spot can be found in the former Crab Shack site on Princes Wharf and trust us when we say, it's even more of a good time than it sounds. Bought to us by Foley Holdings (who have a stable of successful local wine brands to their name, along with another restaurant you may have heard of... SOUL Bar & Bistro!), Somm gives you the chance to discover some of our country's finest vino by the glass, flight, or bottle, without leaving the city—and all in a chic yet relaxed setting, largely inspired by Melbourne's wine bar scene. Check out our full review along with images and opening times.

Lil Ragù, Takapuna

Listen up famiglia, there's a new Italian food truck in town. Lil Ragù's the name, and you'll find it parked up permanently in the beachside 'burb of Takapuna. And ragù ain't the only thing this new spot-on-wheels, bought to us by chef and Italian native Tarik Tnaja, is slinging from its site at 3/9 Northcroft Street—there's a whole heap of other handmade pasta dishes to fill your belly with too, like the lush bucatino with zucchini, ricotta, chilli, basil, lemon and breadcrumb along with mozzarella and beetroot risotto-stuffed arancini—tiramisu—and a glorious gnocco fritto loaded with mortadella and stracciatella.

Paname Social, Auckland CBD

No one does food quite like the French. Don't believe us? Treat yourself to a meal and a drink or two at Auckland's hot new Parisian-inspired cafe/bistro and wine bar, Paname Social, and see if you don't agree. In typical Parisian fashion, Paname is an all-day establishment for much of the week—dishing up everything from the city's staple breakfast of coffee and croissants in the morning, to charcuterie platters, cocktails and other delicacies until late in the evening. Did we mention they also offer an oyster and champagne bar? Take a look at our full review along with images and opening times.

Panacea, Auckland CBD

Tucked away on O’Connell Street lies Panacea—the latest addition to Auckland’s hidden bar scene and a new, true contender for date night.  You won’t find a bar in this intimate sippin’ spot. That’s because the magic happens behind the scenes in Panacea’s very own cocktail kitchen. Whether you prefer a short, savoury kinda tipple or relish all things sparkling and sweet, you’ll certainly find something that tickles your fancy. Panacea has an equally delectable choice of snacks and sharing plates to fuel your cocktail marathon which they describe as "the best kind of picnic food". Peep our full review along with images and opening times.

Times Of India, Auckland CBD

There's something incredibly intoxicating about Indian food—all that wonderful spice, smoke, and intense flavour. And the latest spot to get us fired up over this mouthwatering cuisine is Times Of India, a hot new restaurant from the owners of 1947 (aka one of Auckland's most beloved Indian eateries). Authentic Indian cuisine with a creative twist is the order of the day here, encompassing everything from street-food favourites to exquisite dishes that wouldn't be out of place in the royal Mughal kitchens of old. Expect plenty of colours, plenty of flavours, and yes—plenty of heat. Check out our full review along with images and opening times.

Perch, Britomart

Whoever thought of pairing dumplings with cocktails deserves a medal. And no one does this combo better than Perch—formerly known as Xuxu Dumpling Bar. This newly-revamped spot, which was a fan fave with Aucklanders before being forced to shut its doors for over a year due to Covid and other complications, has finally returned to Britomart and we cannot contain our excitement (nor our drool). Peep our full review along with images and opening times.

Underground Bistro, Karangahape Road

Underground Bistro is the hot new eatery making waves on Karangahape Road. Nestled within the iconic St Kevin's Arcade, it's in good company alongside hospo royalty like Pici and Gemmayze Street—and after opening just a few short months ago, is on track to also becoming one of the city's most sought-after restaurants. If seafood's your thing, you're gonna be happy as a clam about what they have in store—and by that, we mean a menu dedicated almost entirely to kai moana. The emphasis at Underground is on fresh, clean flavours that speak for themselves, and we're here for it. Scope out our full review along with images and opening times.

Lucky Gs, Onehunga

Burgers are top of the food pyramid here at Urban List, so we're stoked to learn that there's now a second branch of cult burger joint, Lucky Gs to stuff our faces at. The team have opened fresh new digs in Onehunga (joining their flagship store in Kelston) and they're bringing their cult brand of smash burgers, fried chicken, and Avondale Steak Rolls (IYKYK) with them. Find out what all the fuss is about and swing by their rad new diner at 34c Oranga Ave between 5-9 pm, Wednesday through Friday.

The Wafflers, Auckland CBD

The Wafflers are putting pancakes to shame with their deliriously delicious Korean-style Croffle and Waffle sweet treats. From the markets to their brand new store on O'Connell street, they've got some seriously yum Croffles (a croissant and waffle hybrid) and waffles with loads of scrumptious toppings from Nutella banana, oreo, strawberry, green tea, tiramisu and more... As brother-sister duo Rok and Min put it, their waffles are the taste of happiness—and we think they're totally right. Roll on over to The Waffler's full review including images and opening times.

Lebanese Grocer, Auckland CBD

Chef Elie Assaf—a Beirut native who counts Milenta and Williams Eatery amongst his credentials, and whose parents own Wellington's long-standing Phoenician Cuisine—has opened the doors to his very own venture on Pitt Street, paying homage to his Lebanese roots. Lebanese Grocer is the name and as such, you can expect a solid line-up of authentic Lebanese goods ranging from pickles and pita to a rather divine homemade hummus which, we must say, looks deserving of a place on your next platter (and the one after that, and the one after that...). Joining these speciality items is a short but equally delicious dine-in menu, featuring shawarma, falafel, and what has already received its fair share of praise since opening day—ba' alawa, or baklava. Throw Lebanese coffee or mint tea and a warm, welcoming atmosphere into the mix, and you have no reason not to visit. Lebanese Grocer is open 9 am-4 pm, Wednesday through Saturday at 65 Pitt Street.

Scandibunz, Milford

The latest spot to open its doors on the North Shore is none other than Scandibunz—home to some of the city's most beloved cinnamon buns, crafted in the traditional Nordic style and previously only available online or at selected markets and cafes. Now, for the first time ever, you'll be able to snaffle these sought-after treats at a dedicated Scandibunz store at 199 Shakespeare Road in Milford and as self-appointed cinny bun experts, we couldn't be happier.

Brew'd Hawt, Manukau

The must-know destination for elevated fast food classics—sans the grease, oil hangover or regret—has opened its neon green doors in Manukau. Brew’d Hawt is the newest destination for seriously inventive fried chicken, chicken burgers and quirky, flavour-filled bites—but would you expect anything less from the legend of all things fried to perfection, formerly of Pickle Pickle and Boy & Bird? Sip away on nostalgic Lewis Road milkshakes and coke floats, while snacking on everything from fried pickles, Szechuan, truffle mac and cheese, and your latest obsession: gooey jalapeno cream cheese rolls, coated in a crispy spring roll sheet. Need chicken lickety-split? Not to worry, their three-flour coated chook stays out-of-the-frier-level crisp for a whole 26 minutes making it the ultimate grab n’ go. Roll on over to Brew'd Hawt's full review including images and opening times.

Queenies Caffé & Vino, Freemans Bay

A grand favourite of the brunch scene has swung open its recently remodelled ivy-draped doors, extending its hours and offerings in the chicest return possible. Queenies has been taken over by hospo royalty Fran Mazza and Aaron Carson (responsible for setting up myriad beloved spots including Sugar at Chelsea Bay, Piccolina, Barbarinos (RIP), Rude Boy Deli, Just Like Martha, Winona Forever and many more) so it's safe to say this legendary Freemans Bay joint is in exceedingly safe hands. It's perfectly poised to become your next spot for well, everything. Pop in for your morning coffee, a lovely lunch or afternoon nibble, cosy in for dinner and while over wine until late—Queenie’s new era is Auckland’s stunning answer to the Italian caffé, wine bar, and eatery outpost. Scope Queenies full review including images and opening times.

Just Jess Boujee Bakery, Takapuna

Cake-making darling Jess Owen has opened a second branch of her wildly popular Huapai bakery, Just Jess Boujee Bakery, in Takapuna. Known for its drop-dead gorgeous treats (think vintage piped cakes, fluffy doughnuts and cute stamped sugar cookies, decked out in Barbiecore pink and white), this is indeed one of the boujeest bakeries in Auckland and an absolute must-visit. At this stage, the new shop—which can be found at 10 Northcroft Street—is operating strictly as a pop-up but worry not, there'll be more than enough time to eat your body weight in bakes (and by that, we mean eight glorious months). Opening hours are 8 am-2 pm, Sunday through Wednesday.

No. 1 Pancake, Takapuna

We're flipping (hehehe) over the news that No. 1 Pancake has opened a second store in Takapuna. The home of arguably Auckland's most famous (and cheapest) pannies, which started life in the CBD before moving across the bridge to Rosedale, has set up shop at 33-45 Hurtsmere Road and you know what that means, people—pancakes on the beach. And not just any pancakes—these are made in the traditional hotteok style that's popular in Korea, meaning they're stuffed with mouthwatering fillings like brown sugar and cinnamon and potato and cheese (a dish so delish it was awarded a spot in the 100 Auckland Iconic Eats) before being cooked 'til crispy and golden. Check out No. 1 Pancake's new digs between 8 am-5 pm, Tuesday-Friday and 8 am-6 pm, Saturday-Sunday.

Neat., Mount Eden

A naturally plant-based bakery has moved into the old Midnight Baker digs on Dominion Road and we think it’s pretty Neat. Free from eggs, dairy or gelatine every Neat. cake—available in mini, baby and full cake sizes—is 100% vegan and many of its mouthwatering flavours can be made gluten-free on request.

Manis Bakery, Ponsonby

Manis Bakery has landed in Ponsonby, bringing with it pistachio croissants, cinnamon rolls, cookies and cream donuts and a slew of other drool-worthy delights, which you'll find in all its quaint, pastel pink glory at 38 Ponsonby Road. This charming new spot, which also does a solid cup of Espresso Workshop coffee, is open for all your pastry needs, Tuesday-Sunday 8am-3pm.

Mighty Hotdog, Sylvia Park

The legends at Mighty Hotdog have opened yet another store, this time 'round at Sylvia Park. Following on from their hugely popular outlets in the CBD, Royal Oak and Pakuranga, the home of sugar-dusted Korean hotdogs has added to its brood with a shiny silver caravan which you'll find parked up in the mall's foodie laneway, open every day from 11 am until late.

Bunty's, Milford

Word has reached us of a new burger joint in Milford. Bunty's is its name and you'll find it on Kitchener Road, right next door to another new-ish eatery, the incredible Tokki. Despite having only opened in December, Bunty's is already making quite the impression on locals thanks to their gourmet brand of smash burgers, which you'll find served alongside some classy small plates (pumpkin, mushroom and sundried tomato arancini, for example) and a selection of boozy bevvies, all in an upmarket, diner-style setting. Personally, we can't wait to sink our teeth into their classic cheeseburger, which features not one, but two 100% pure Angus beef patties made with meat from local butchery Well Hung, smooshed together with grilled cheese, pickles, onions, mayo and mustard. Dang.

Ragtag, Westmere

Picture this: succulent pieces of slow-cooked duck, drenched in a peppery sauce and apricot salsa, all poured into a soft duck-fat flour tortilla. Or perhaps a mountain of fluffy chocolate mousse, dripping in olive oil and sprinkled with salt. Or how about some crunchy beef 'nuggets', stuffed with juicy meat and dressed in a punchy green chilli sauce? If this sounds like your idea of heaven, we have to agree. The good news is, you don't have to take a trip to the pearly gates to try it—a trip to Westmere will do just fine. That's where you'll find this bonafide food-of-the-gods, at a brand-new restaurant by the name of Ragtag. Mosey over to Ragtag's full review including images and opening times.

BOSSI, Auckland CBD

We think you'll agree there's something of a renaissance happening in the CBD right now in the area of Italian food. Introducing BOSSI, an exquisite new Italian restaurant nestled into the ground floor of The Pacifica, the country's tallest residential skyscraper located on Commerce Street. Some of you may already be familiar with the BOSSI name—they opened an authentic Italian deli named DELI di BOSSI, right next door in April. Jenna Carter is the face behind BOSSI, and together with executive chef, Shaun Dowling, she is hoping to bring real-deal Italian cuisine to our little corner of the world—albeit with a pinch of luxury, because, you know, la dolce vita and all that. Take a look at Bossi's full review including images and opening times.

Aigo Noodle Bar, Ponsonby

A mouthwatering new noodle bar has landed on Ponsonby Road from hospo legend, David Lee, and you're going to want to get there, stat. Lee has been instrumental in bringing us some of the city's most moreish Korean cuisine in recent years (think Gochu and before that, The Candy Shop), and this latest spot—Aigo—is no exception. Prepare to be bowled over by some of the most slurp-worthy dishes imaginable at this new eatery (whose name, rather fittingly, translates to 'oh my' in English) including thick, hand-pulled noodles stacked with scampi and prawn meatballs—kimcheese fries laden with bulgogi, gochujang chipotle and cheddar cheese sauce—and what we're picking will become Aigo's signature dish, tteokbokki (rice cakes) smothered in cacio e pepe, torched cheese and truffle. Bloody hell. Stick a fork in this saucy Korean goodness at 168 Ponsonby Road from 12pm-late, Wednesday through Sunday.

Bivacco, The Viaduct

If you love to wine and dine waterside (and who doesn't?) you're going to love the hot new Italian eatery Bivacco. The prime spot that once housed Headquarters has been completely transformed by hospitality legends Savor Group into an elegant eatery that will transport you straight to the heart of the Amalfi Coast, bringing a splash of Italian razzle-dazzle to the sunny Viaduct, just in time for summer. Serving up simple unfussy Italian fare made with the finest locally sourced ingredients—think amazing Antipasti, hearty Mediterranian mains, freshly made pasta, and tantalizing desserts. Pair all of that with an elite waterside location, unparalleled views, and an exquisite cocktail menu, and Bivacco is perfect for your next rendezvous. Take a look at Bivacco's full review including images and opening times.

Shake Out, Commercial Bay

Burgers never go out of style, especially when they're the kind coming outta Shake Out's kitchen. Shake Out has been a fave of ours since they jumped onto the scene a few years back, thanks to their freshly-crafted burgs featuring patties made from prime, juicy New Zealand beef served on soft, potato and pumpkin flour buns. Now the legendary burger brand, which has branches in Smales Farm as well as Hamilton and Palmy, has a brand-new spot inside Commercial Bay (you'll find it on the second floor in the Harbour Eats food hall) to fulfil the CBD's burger cravings. Don't forget to grab one of their famous shakes while you're there (previous flavours have included peanut butter and jelly, fairy bread and bubblegum)—they don't call it Shake Out for nothing.

KOL, Ponsonby

Pronounced 'Coal', KOL is hospo legends and award-winning restaurateurs Sid and Chand Sahrawat's triumphant return to Ponsonby, taking over the iconic villa previously held by Rocco and MooChowChow. The space has now been transformed into a casual yet stylish eatery where the emphasis is on dishing up innovative cocktails and fiery flavours, a place to drink and snack with gleeful abandon. Think Amritsari prawn toast, beef tartare, vindaloo fries, kingfish served with carrot kanji and a 12-hour marinated goat leg that is just melt-in-your-mouth perfection. With an emphasis on serving up great drinks, choose from cutting-edge cocktails, a dedicated gin menu, and an extensive wine list. Scope out KOL's full review including images and opening times.

Rejoice. Check out The GF Depot's full review including images and opening times.

Maison Des Lys, Grey Lynn

An exciting new French patisserie has landed in Grey Lynn and it’s serving up some of the best vegan treats in town. Maison Des Lys is New Zealand’s first plant-based French patisserie on a mission to prove that you don't have to compromise on taste or quality when it comes to Vegan treats—and trust us, once you’ve tasted their pastries, you’ll completely agree. Dishing up strawberry tarts, apricot danish and almond hazelnut milk chocolate cruffins and we can't forget about the most sort after pastry at Maison Des Lys— their famous hand-crafted croissants. Bon appétit mes amis. Take a look at Maison Des Lys' full review including images and opening times.

MoVida, Britomart

A Melbourne icon for almost two decades, MoVida has officially landed on our shores, bringing its beloved brand of Spanish-style tapas and sharing plates with it. The brainchild of Barcelona native and acclaimed chef, Frank Camorra, MoVida has spawned an empire of sorts since first opening in the early 2000s, with two additional eateries and several airport outposts to its name, as well as the unofficial title of the restaurant that kickstarted Melbourne's obsession with tapas. Now it's Auckland's turn to partake of the MoVida goodness—the eatery arrived here at the end of August, moving into the space previously occupied by Ostro (and where, in fact, it appeared as a pop-up some years ago). Check out MoVida's full review including images and opening times.

Tokki, Milford

Oh, Milford. Do you have any idea just how lucky you are? If the answer is no (or a tentative yes), then we're about to tell you why you should indeed be feeling blessed/fortuitous/all of the above. Jason Kim—an icon of the Auckland culinary scene, whom many of you will know from the hugely popular Gochu at Commercial Bay—has landed in your midst with a charming new Korean eatery called Tokki which is slinging metre-long noodles, prawn and mushroom-stuffed chicken wings, and other edible delights. To those of you who live in the area (or anywhere north of the bridge, for that matter), permission to brag is now officially granted. Take a look at Tokki's full review including images and opening times.

Origine, Commercial Bay

Tears were definitely shed when Saxon + Parole closed its doors late last year, but every cloud has a silver lining and in this case, it comes in the form of Origine—Ben Bayly's latest venture with business partner, Chris Martin and their respective wives, Cara and Lucile, which has just opened its doors at Commercial Bay. Fans of Ben's work know he can lend his hand to literally anything, whether that's whipping up Kiwi kai at nearby Ahi, putting home cooks through their paces on MKR, or plating up Italian cuisine at Arrowtown's Aosta—and this latest spot, a modern French bistro, doesn't disappoint. With a lavish menu inspired by la France's most beloved dishes, using only the finest local ingredients, you should come expecting seriously good (and seriously delicious!) things. Check out Origine's full review including images and opening times.

Bar Albert, CBD

It's time to level up your bar game Auckland, and we have just the place. Bar Albert's the name, and aside from being the city's newest rooftop bar, it's also the country's highest—sitting a staggering 38 floors above street level, atop the gorgeous voco Auckland City Centre hotel. Yes, if sipping tipples while taking in sky-high views is up your alley (hell yeah it is!), then Bar Albert is about to become your new fave drinking destination. Take a look at Bar Albert's full review including images and opening times.

Pikuniku, Greenlane

Sitting pretty on a corner site in Greenlane is Pikuniku, a cute new neighbourhood eatery dishing up brunch with a delicious Japanese twist. This is the latest project from hospo darlings, Isaac Yu and Jeff Kim, who run the nearby Slowlane (also highly delicious) and a number of other top-notch eateries. The team have honed in on some of your fave brunch-time dishes and given them a sizeable shake-up—introducing distinctly Japanese flavours that will have your tastebuds jumping for joy. Scope out Pikuniku's full review including images and opening times.

Ooh-Fa, Mount Eden

The hottest ticket in town right now is Ooh-Fa—a brand-new pizza and wine bar from the masterminds behind Karangahape Road's phenomenally successful pasta joint, Pici. That's right fam, in what could be the most genius move of 2022, the team that acquainted us with cacio e pepe and olive oil cheesecake have opened a dedicated pizzeria on Dominion Road. Serving up a boujee, 22-seater space that oozes friendly neighbourhood vibes, the focus here is on simple yet delicious slices, washed down with natural wines. Peep Ooh-Fa's full review including images and opening times.

Taco Medic, CBD

Auckland's appetite for Taco Medic is growing, literally. The gluten-free taco brand, which started life as a food truck in Queenstown and opened the doors to its first craft taqueria in Auckland on Ponsonby Road this year has just opened a second outpost on the corner of Quay and Albert Streets. Learn more about Taco Medic's latest outpost here.

Sunset, CBD

Sunset is now open atop the Sudima Hotel on Nelson Street, bringing with it ‘70s-style vibes and an incredible west-facing terrace for those golden hour 'grams. And that's not all. A number of experts consulted on the drinks menu, which includes an eclectic wine list, locally focussed beer selection and bespoke cocktails, while the food reflects executive chef Harmeet Singh Nanda’s Mumbai heritage (think masala waffle fries with parmesan and tomato kasundi, fried chicken with curried mustard and pickled onion, and poppadoms with whipped avocado, green chilli and pomegranate salsa). Oh and don't forget the DJ sessions, running daily.  Read more about Sunset here.

Phat Philly's, Morningside

It's come to our attention that there's a new eatery dedicated entirely to the incredibleness that is the Philly cheesesteak sandwich. A rare find in these parts ('parts' being Auckland) but in our opinion, one of the best things since between sliced bread, this meaty delight comes to us by way of Philadelphia and brings together steak, onions, and a shitload of melted cheese inside one glorious hoagie roll. Yip, this sandwich is every bit as dirty as it sounds and Phat Philly's in Morningside, bought to us by the team behind Kind, Morningcider and Crave, are doing it absolute cheese-drenched justice. They even offer a mushroom version for all you vege-loving folk out there and best of all, you can dip your chosen treat in a punnet of extra melted cheese (naturally).

Vic Road Wine Bar & Cellar, Devonport

Looking for a small, chic, neighbourhood spot to indulge any whim you might have around wine? Look no further than Vic Road Wine Bar & Cellar in Devonport. Housed in a cosy heritage building completely laced with bottles from around the world, you’ll experience wine of all kinds in all its glory. Dig into a range of elevated Euro-tapas dishes—including a whole mozzarella ball, fine pate, octopus and one of the best steak tartares in Auckland—and pair them with a glass or two from their ever-changing by-the-glass wine list. Oh, and if you happen to find a wine you love so much and can’t part ways with, you’ll find a bottle for every wine on offer to-go, cellar, to keep the cosiness going at home. Next date night is officially sorted. Scope out Vic Road Wine Bar's full review including images and opening times.

Javalab, CBD

Ooh la la, a gorgeous new French patisserie has finally opened downtown and it's definitely been worth the wait. After sitting out the worst of the pandemic in a lush site on the corner of Customs and Gore Street, it's just opened its sleek doors this week. We're talking about Javalab, which is serving up incredible baked goods and a range of experimental, Fairtrade coffee brews and blends from its spot on the ground floor of the recently re-opened SO/ Auckland hotel. Authentic French treats are the name of the game here—think macarons, eclairs and croissants, along with toasted burritos and hot-pressed paninis for the savoury fans. Oui, oui, oui.

Palmer, CBD

Find food and booze in ample supply at Palmer, the swanky new bar and restaurant that's opened its doors downtown at 1 Albert Street (formerly West Plaza). Expect plenty of Palms Springs vibes (hence the name) but more importantly, an incredible menu led by next-generation Kiwi chef James Kenny—we're talking manuka martinis, savoury Italian doughnuts, mille-feuille... the only thing left to do is check it out and yes, you'll probably see us there when you do.

Barcita, Karangahape Road

Remember how our friends at Candela were working on something special? Well we can now tell you, that something special is Barcita—a super gorge secret bar and private dining space hidden out the back of the restaurant. We know you'll be as excited for this one as we are, what with its divine menu of cheeses, charcuterie and cheesecake, sitting alongside an epic selection of highballs, wine, beer, and non-alcoholic tipples. Peep Barcita's full review including images and opening times.

De Nada, Mount Eden

We love a sleek neighbourhood eatery as much as we love Mexican food and thankfully, Mount Eden Village newcomer De Nada dishes up both—with a light, fresh and chic vibe. This hot new taqueria and tequila bar comes complete with a menu full of items both authentic and elevated—think margaritas and mojitos with delectably quirky spins (lychee and raspberry margarita, anyone?) to nachos with the likes of tuna sashimi or chorizo. Don’t leave without trying the light, slightly crisped and lavishly dusted churros now will you. If it’s not for the moreish caramel and punchy dark chocolate sauces (after all, the Aztecs did pioneer chocolate), then at least let the flame as it arrives to your table be your reason for nabbing them. Scope out De Nada's full review including images and opening times.

Parade, Ponsonby

Parade has a new haunt and we’re totally in love. Just a stone’s throw from their O.G. home on Ponsonby Road this levelled up chapter of Parade comes complete with a garden fit-out and liquor licence. Vibes. Get your mouth around their seriously tasty burgers in their signature house-made pretzel-style buns-from smashed patties and free-range chicken to seasonal vege, their exceptional extras (hellooo, loaded fries) and their cocktail jugs. Yes, jugs. Scope out Parade's full review including images and opening times.

Mighty Hotdog, Pakuranga

First it was the CBD, then it was Royal Oak, now it's Pakuranga's turn to welcome Mighty Hotdog to the neighbourhood. You'll find them at 131 Pepler Street, Pakuranga Plaza, slinging their highly addictive brand of Korean-style hotdogs on a stick (that means fried to perfection, rolled in sugar-yes, sugar-then loaded with your fave sauces and other toppings). Hot damn.

Deli Di Bossi, CBD

Treat yourself to the good life at Deli di Bossi, an authentic Italian deli that's just opened as part of The Pacifica, Auckland's tallest residential tower and which will be joined later in the year by a fine dining restaurant, bar, and private function space also under the Bossi name (see Coming Soon, below). Carb-load to your heart's content with freshly-baked bread and pasta, create the charcuterie board of your dreams with lush meats and cheeses, or simply swing by for a cup of coffee and a cannoli. And don't forget to check out their selection of Cicchetti, aka traditional Italian street food.

The Bridgman, Mount Eden

What do you get when you breathe new life into an old classic? A fancy AF bar and bistro with which we're completely and utterly obsessed, that's what. We're talking about the space previously held by The Dominion, which has recently received a luxurious facelift and a new name to boot—The Bridgman. Think interiors that are unapologetically extra, a bar pouring all sorts of delish tipples, and a menu focusing on classic pub grub, but not as you know it. Pre- or post-game drinking spot, lunch or dinner destination, or for a lucky few, your new local—this fresh take on an old fave is ticking all the right boxes. Scope out The Bridgman's full review including images and opening times.

Schapiro's Sports Bar, Eden Terrace

As far as sports bars go, Schapiro's is knocking it outta the park—and then some. It's the latest baby from Otis Schapiro, aka one-third of the trio behind hugely popular Grey Lynn osteria and wine bar, Lilian (and from whom Schapiro's takes its name). Schapiro's takes all the best bits about a sports bar and wraps them up in one exciting and extremely delicious new package, and we are OBSESSED. Whether you wanna head along and soak up a game (NBA and UFC are just some of what you can expect to see on the big screen), pop in for a smashie and a soda, or simply check out somewhere new, this one's an absolute winner. Scope out Schapiro's full review including images and opening times.

Welcome to the home of the Vegan Classic Smash Burger, believed to be the only vegan smashie in Auckland, which is waiting for you right now at Burgernaut—the epic new burger kitchen operating out of Urbanaut Brewery in Kingsland. Choose from three game-changing mainstays (available vegan, vegetarian or with meat) or perhaps one of their insane specials, all made with housemade sauces and seasonings and in a genius yet totally sensical move, incorporating Urbanaut's beers wherever possible. Of course, the only respectable way to complete your meal here would be with a beer, served icy cold and straight from the tap for peak drinking pleasure. So bring your mates, bring your dog (that's right, good dogs are welcome) and definitely bring your appetite, because this tasty new offering is ready and just waiting to be smashed. Scope out Burgernaut's full review including images and opening times.

Lucky 8, Ponsonby

A hot new speakeasy from the legends behind Mr Hao has just opened on Ponsonby Road and it has legit blown our minds. Come up the sleek black staircase framed by cute black cats and be ushered into Lucky 8—a seriously cool spot pairing exposed brick and funky neon signs (a Mr Hao signature) with deep-red leather seats, wooden tables and Asian touches reminiscent of a Shanghai Loft in the French concession. Chefs from around the world have helped create an exquisite Asian-inspired tapas menu where nothing is over $8 (and unbelievably, all the delicious cocktails will also only set you back $8). Come check out this fun new spot, where eight is definitely a lucky number (certainly where your wallet's concerned, anyway!). Scope out Lucky 8's full review including images and opening times.

A hot new Jamaican eatery has come to town and it's here to set your tastebuds on FIRE. Nanny's Eatery is the name, and you'll find it along the main drag in Kingsland. Yup, if you like your food exotic and with a decent hit of heat, this could be your new fave spot, with authentic Jamaican and Mexican-infused fare the order of the day. Inspired by owner and head chef JP's own Jamaican upbringing (special shoutout to his GramMa, who taught him much of what he knows in the kitchen), you'll be hard-pressed to find anything here that's not bloody delicious. Scope out Nanny's Eatery's full review including images and opening times.

These guys have been a stalwart of the market scene for several years now thanks to their famously fluffy pitas (the falafel is particularly exceptional) and rugelach croissants, which you'll find at their brand new spot on France Street.

Mumbaiwala, Ponsonby

A stunning new Indian restaurant has arrived in Ponsonby and it's transporting us straight to the bustling streets of Mumbai. Named Mumbaiwala, this is the eatery's second branch (the flagship is in Christchurch alongside their sister eatery Permit Room) and it's alive with the sights, sounds, smells and of course, tastes, of India's largest city. The award for tastiest dish goes hands-down to the Dahi Puri, which takes mini puff pastry-like shells and stuffs them with a drool-worthy combo of mashed potatoes, chickpeas, and spicy yoghurt. Dessert should never be overlooked, and here comes in the form of Chocolate Naan (like a super-upgraded Nutella-on-bread situation), Cardamom & Coconut Kulfi (think Indian frozen yoghurt), or perhaps a cheeky cocktail (our vote goes to the Bombay Colada with coconut rum, chai, coriander, pineapple, and coconut). Scope out Mumbaiwala's full review including images and opening times.

Fat Puku's Smashed Burgers, Auckland CBD

We're always down for trying out a new burger joint, especially one that's named after a cat! Enter Fat Puku's Smashed Burgers, the funky new spot that's taken over the old Al's Deli space on Queen Street. Sick fit-out aside, these burgs take inspo from the 'smashed' style that's long been a mainstay of diners and roadside burger joints in the US, and is now gaining traction here in NZ. You'll of course be wanting a drink to wash down all of that burger-y goodness, so take your pick of classic milkshake flavours, sodas, and even a selection of beers, ciders, and RTDs. What started as a food truck has now put down permanent roots in the city. Praise be. In short, if it's burgers, fries, and fun vibes you're after, Fat Puku's is the place. Scope out Fat Puku's full review including images and opening times.

And that's not all, they also have nachos and mouthwatering sides to go with, plus the promise of $5 Taco Tuesdays... oh, and let's not forget that everything on the menu is entirely GLUTEN-FREE. Scope out Taco Medic's full review including images and opening times.

The Art Department are responsible for the fit-out, which blends the building's 100-year heritage with Lower East Side vibes, including a mural that will change every six months to suit the season—wowza! Add to that a glorious sun-drenched garden out back, and we're already thinking it could be our new fave drinking spot. P.S. These guys have also opened hidden cocktail bar ACS, which you can read about here

The Fox, Auckland Viaduct

You don't have to be an ex-pat Brit or even to have visited England to appreciate the epicness that is The Fox, a brand new London-inspired pub nestled into the corner of the Auckland Viaduct. With an edgy fit-out featuring (fake) stuffed animals, bowler hat lights, and quirky artworks of notable Brits like Queen Elizabeth II and Winston Churchill (complete with tattoos and Tommy gun, respectively).  Yup, as far as London pubs go, this is possibly one of the best we've been to... and that's including its much-maligned, sticky-floored, stale beer-scented counterparts in London. Scope out The Fox's full review including images and opening times.

Wise Boys, Grey Lynn

Okay so technically this one isn't a new opening, more of a new look. Vegan burger bosses, Wise Boys have ditched their old fish-and-chip shop style fit-out in Grey Lynn and replaced it with a slick new storefront and enclosed dining space—the perfect excuse to swing by and try out their new summer menu, featuring the country's first-ever plant-based smash patty (helllll yes).

The Muriwai Deli, Muriwai

West Auckland is serving up the goods in a big way this week, with the hotly-anticipated opening of The Muriwai Deli. A collab between legendary coffee and pudding truck, Double Shot (world famous in this particular neck of the woods for their insane doughnuts and other delights) and another dynamo of the food truck scene, Double Parked (winners of Auckland's Most Sustainable Food Truck in 2020 and purveyors of seriously ace burgers, salads, tacos and more), this one has us feeling PUMPED. You'll find this rad new spot located inside the 99-year-old Muriwai Lodge, serving up everything from coffee and sammies to toasties and sweet treats (including, yes, those famous doughnuts). Pro tip: walk off all those inevitable calories with a stroll along Muriwai Beach afterwards.
