Sometimes it’s important to up the ante at our weekly team lunch. With the arrival of The Urban List’s founder and Head Honcho, Susannah George, in Auckland, we had to put in a lot of thought about where we’d take her. We wanted to impress, we wanted it all—great food, great service and a place that looked great to boot.
Of course, the old fave (surely an Auckland institution), Non Solo Pizza—NSP—came to mind.
It opened its doors in 1997 and is situated in the heart of Parnell Road, if you stroll past, its deceptive, hiding the gem inside. Walk past the street-front Bar Vino and you’ll find a gorgeous courtyard that will transport you to Italy. Decorated with lavish greenery, wrought iron chairs and a water feature, it’s so tranquil and lovely, you’ll want to stay for a long lunch…and possibly into the evening.
The menu is seriously extensive and takes a traditional approach to Italian food. With literally page after page of food options, it’s a wee bit hard to choose! Known for their delicious pizza (we’ve already named them as one of the spots to find Auckland’s Best Pizza), a few of the team couldn’t help but indulge. With their cheesy goodness, they did not disappoint. Too large to eat in one sitting, the staff happily put them in boxes to take home for later. Even better, the waitress had (somehow) memorised which pizza matched which person, and handed them out when we left. We were super impressed, obvs.
We also indulged in the ravioli. The Ravioli Di Pollo—a chicken and spinach ravioli with thyme, sage, basil, butter and percorino was rich and dreamy. The Ravioli Alla Piemontese—aromatic beef and spinach ravioli with burnt butter and sage, veal jus, parmesan and truffle oil also went down a treat.
The staff all made us feel welcome and were friendly and knowledgeable. The wine list is crafted to compliment the menu, and our waiter was happy to advise us which bottle we should order.
While we could have easily stayed longer, work beckoned, and we left with full and happy bellies. But, NSP offers a lot more than what we could stay around for—they have a private function space if you’re in the need for one, there are so many food options, you could eat there every day for a month and still be trying something new, and its vibe shifts up a notch.
We can’t rave enough about NSP as the perfect spot for pretty much any occasion—work lunch, date night, groups, events—you name it, NSP will be right.
As for taking Susannah to NSP, she was later heard saying, 'Hope you guys are okay with me sticking around for a while! If this is where you're going to take me to lunch, I may never leave.'
