Not A Drill! You Can Now Get PINK Chocolate

White, milk and dark chocolate can all take a hike. Pink chocolate is here and it’s guaranteed to take over your Instagram feed.

Before you ask, the aptly named 'ruby chocolate' isn’t artificially dyed with pink colouring (ew). And nope, there are no berries or berry flavours in sight. In fact, the blush deliciousness is made from a ruby cocoa bean.

The ‘millennial pink’ chocolate is the brainchild of Switzerland company Barry Callebaut. As one of the world’s largest chocolate manufacturers, they’re pretty much the real deal of Willy Wonka.

Sourcing ruby beans from around the world, the team (read: oompa loompas) process the beans to unlock the natural flavours and unique pink colour. Voilà—pink chocolate is born! It’s the first new, naturally coloured chocolate since Nestlé unveiled white chocolate more than 80 years ago.

As for the flavour? It’s not too bitter, not too sweet. It’s described by the chocolate company as a “tension between berry-fruitiness and luscious smoothness”. Yep, we’ll be eating this one by the block.

Unfortunately, there’s no word when ruby chocolate will land in New Zealand. Watch this space—we’re crossing our fingers this beautiful choccy takes over our candy aisles asap.

To keep you satisfied until then, why not check out Auckland’s best chocolate fondant or hot chocolate?
