As much as we love stuffing our faces with everything delicious that Auckland has to offer, we also have to keep our fitness goals on the up. Everyone has their beloved workout spot, but according to our recent Readers’ Choice awards, you guys have a handful of faves.
Auckland has spoken! From gyms and CrossFit dens to yoga studios and barre spots, here are the ten best places to workout in Auckland, as voted by you.
#1 Habitat For Fitness | Kingsland
Taking our first place, Habitat For Fitness is, well…a habitat for fitness. They’re praised for having a real sense of community where trainers whip your booty into shape via a range of fun and supportive classes. We’re talking everything from Kettle Beat, spin and yoga flow to their hard-core Warrior class. They have over 75 classes per week so you’re quite literally spoilt for choice!
#2 Northern Arena | Silverdale
Northern Arena’s facilities are off the charts. There’s a whopping FOUR indoor heated swimming pools (crafted in Italy), Les Mills classes, a RPM studio, functional training studio, cardio theatre, stretch area, child car AND a healthy café. You won’t find another fitness centre like it.
#3 CrossFit Auckland | Rosedale
CrossFit sounds pretty intimidating, huh? If you’re looking to get amongst this hard-core exercise, CrossFit Auckland is the place to do it. Located in Rosedale (and Ponsonby), this gym is run by expert coaches who ensure that each class is varied and challenging, but not too scary for newbies. They specialise in energetic and supportive vibes—two things you’ll need when smashing out 60-minutes of CrossFit.
#4 Epic Training Studios | Pinehill
Pinehill’s Epic Training Studios are nothing short of epic. They’re a centre for healthy lifestyle change and will help you nail your fitness goals one week at a time. They run 30-minute high intensity interval training sessions with a maximum of six peeps, so you’re basically getting a PT sesh without the crazy prices. Epic Training Studios will even suss out your diet and help fix any niggly injuries.
#5 Yoga West | Titirangi
Nestled amongst the beautiful bush in Titrangi, Yoga West offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. From vinyasa, yin slow flow and pregnancy yoga, you’ll find a class to get hooked on. And if you’re a super duper rookie, Yoga West will have you flexi and zen with their six-week yoga basics course.
#6 Boxing Central | Mt Eden
Sometime you just want to punch something and when you do, look no further than Boxing Central in Mt Eden. This boxing gym will get you fighting fit with their Boxfit, Probox, Crossbox and Zero to Hero classes. There are more than 40 punch bags to punch away at and you can be sure that the trainers will work you hard.
#7 CrossFit Kia Maia | Wairau Valley
CrossFit Kia Maia has been described as a supportive family—pushing you to the limit but helping you up when you fall down. They create a safe and friendly environment for you to give CrossFit a go or work on some serious fitness goals. Cross Fit Kia Maia also run a Mums and Bubs CrossFit class for busy parents and new mamas looking to get back into shape.
#8 Barrefigure | Grey Lynn
Former dancer, Marysa has created a barre haven in Grey Lynn—and it’s your ticket to a lean, mean bod! For those you haven’t heard of the wonderful world of barre, it combines dance movements to challenge your body in a 60-minute workout. With classes for beginners and advanced barre peeps, you’ll find something to tickle your fancy at Barrefigure.
#9 Xtend Barre | Ponsonby
Bringing together elements of dance, pilates and ballet, Xtend Barre is an adrenaline-fuelled workout to help strengthen and lengthen your body. The fitness craze started overseas and has found a permanent home in Ponsonby. Classes are designed to improve balance, challenge the core and make you flexi—one movement at a time.
#10 Shape In The City | Parnell
For most, the term ‘bootcamp’ is enough to make you want crawl into bed yet Shape In The City have a knack for making people love the bootcamp lifestyle. There’s HIIT IT, Bikini Body and a speedy Express 30 HIT where the trainers will push you to challenge yourself. The sessions are always dynamic and fresh and will keep you on your toes—even if it’s 6am.
