Lacking inspiration for what to do on the weekend? We understand your pain and that’s why we are here—to give you the inspiration to make this weekend the best you’ve had in a while. Sometimes all you need is a little time spent with nature to make you realise the good things in life are right in front of you.
And so, we bring you six spots to take your breath away this weekend.
Karekare Beach And Falls
We love ourselves a little West Coast exploration, and Karekare provides the perfect place to explore two spots in one. If you’re into waterfalls then visit the Karekare Falls, a short stroll from the main road. If chilling on the beach is more your thing, then trek along the Zion Hill Track to watch the sunset on Karekare beach.
The Waitakere Ranges really can do no wrong, with uncountable tracks to explore, we feel like we need to spend every weekend here. The Cascade Track is another favourite—get immersed in nature through the numerous paths and try the track to the dam, which leads you to an unimaginable view looking over the entire ranges.
Sunrise On Mt Victoria
If you’re a sucker for sunsets then no doubt you’ll be into sunrises too. Dragging yourself out of bed will be completely worth it to watch a breathtaking sunrise from the top of Mt Victoria. If you want to fully commit bring your yoga mat for some sunrise practise and meditation.
Full Moon Gazing Out Of Auckland
Nothing is better than getting out of the big smoke and checking out the stars in the fresh air. Grab a blanket and mattress to set up spot in the back of your boot and star gaze. The full moon was on the 19th July, so we have hope that you’ll still reap some benefits of its special powers this weekend.
The Blue Springs is another insta worthy spot to visit. While you might not want to go for a mid-winter dip in the springs cool 11 degrees, all-year-round temperature, you can go for the view. This tropical spot is located in Putaruru, and supplies around 70% of New Zealand’s bottled water. Time to start competing with those European coastline grams…
Caves At Mercer Bay
West is best, so they say. Another West Coast beauty is the Mercer Bay Track. While it’s not the easiest track to get down (note – you will be hanging off ropes at points), it’s fully worth it to get to the secluded beach below. Pack a head torch, as what will greet you at the bottom are three stunning caves—real hidden beauties of NZ.
