It’s common knowledge that the two best things in this world are a) cheese and b) cake. So when some joker decided to combine the two, it was a doubly glorious time. And, lucky for us, Auckland knows a thing or two about cheesecake. Whether you’re like yours topped high with fruit, dense with chocolate or something on the healthier side, there’s something for everyone in this cheesecake lovin’ city of ours. We’ve rounded up the 10 best cheesecakes in Auckland.
The Raw Kitchen
Taking inspo from the famous chocolate bar, The Raw Kitchen’s Snickers cheesecake features caramel, peanut, creamy nougat and rich chocolate. The best part? The tasty treat is free from gluten, dairy and refined sugars. The Raw Kitchen must be up to some sort of wizardry because we have nooo idea how something so healthy can be so damn delicious. Magic, me thinks.
When it comes to cheesecake, you’re spoilt for choice at Frasers. The cabinet of the Mt Eden café is brimming with cheesy goodness. You’ll be pulling your hair out as you choose between flavours such as cookies and cream, Baileys, mango and passionfruit. We can’t go past their classic New York-style baked cheesecake. Oh, and the slices are huuuge. Brace yourself for a cheesecake feast.
The Sugar Shed
Let your love of cheesecake drive you south to The Sugar Shed. The Pukekohe café takes cheesecake seriously. Their ever-changing flavours include red velvet, mint chocolate, cookies and cream, strawberry white chocolate, Nutella and—our favourite—peanut butter. The delectable delights are not for the faint-hearted (or borderline diabetic). Eat with caution.
Ponsonby & Kingsland
No cheese was harmed in the making of Little Bird’s raw, organic cheesecakes. Yup, these bad boys are not only free from gluten, soy and refined sugars, but they also don’t contain any dairy products! Don’t ask us what our favourite flavour is because there’s no way we can choose between the likes of cacao and raspberry, black forest and passionfruit.
Pop on down to Al’s Deli for the ultimate cheat meal. Al serves up all the indulgences: burgers, poutine, doughnuts and, of course, cheesecake. You won’t regret a single calorie of the mouth-watering, finger-lickin’ lemon and strawberry cheesecake.
Polish off your chicken waffles with a serve of white chocolate cheesecake from Orleans. Served with caramelised banana and Chantilly cream, this delish dessert is not to be missed. It’s best enjoyed with one of Orleans’ famous hardshakes. Go hard or go home, we say.
What better way to finish off a big ol’ serve of poutine than with a slice of cheesecake? Make your dreams a reality at The Fed. The friendly folk serve the best New York-style cheesecake in Auckland (big call, we know). Be sensible and order a single slice or opt for the three-way combo and enjoy with serves of pumpkin, banoffee or lemon meringue pie #treatyoself.
The Garden Shed
Just because you’re on that Paleo buzz needn’t mean you miss out on cheesecake! The Garden Shed serves up a berry cheesecake that’s friendly with your caveman diet. The dessert is served with vanilla coconut cream and topped high with raspberries and strawberries. Paleo or not, it will bring pleasure to all.
While Big Js’ cheesecake offering scores no points for presentation, it’s certainly worthy of praise. Served in a plastic container (with a plastic spoon, nonetheless), the cheesecake is easy on the wallet and delicious to the lips. It’s the perfect post-burger treat.
