In the heart of Mt Eden, The Garden Shed has quickly become a favourite of locals and really, we’re hardly surprised—just walking in the door of this charming Auckland cafe is an experience in itself. There are little tables outside for people watching but inside it’s a plethora of bird-cages, flowers, and garden tools—the bar even uses small shovels as beer handles!
Wait to be served by the sign that reads ‘Please wait to be planted’ (cute), and it’s not long before a smiling staff member will lead you to a table. If you’re lucky you’ll be seated out the back, where this Auckland café transforms into a lush secluded garden. Pots are filled with flowing plants and the vibe is friendly and relaxed. It’s a city oasis that calms the soul. And then there’s the menu.
The drinks list at The Garden Shed has everything from healthy smoothies to coffee to craft beer to vino and cocktails—seriously, this place has a beverage for everyone. When it comes to food, The Garden Shed prides itself on simplicity, but the taste is anything but. They try and source their produce locally and use higher welfare meats and animal products (because they’re better for you, don’t y’know). There are plenty of options to share with friends, but if you prefer a meal to yourself, the brunch menu offers yummy plates like buckwheat pancakes, Grandma’s Granola’s [SM1] or the best ugly benny. The lunch and dinner menus at The Garden Shed are equally scrumptious and the desserts are to-die-for delicious—salted caramel chocolate pot, anyone? Whether you’re dairy-free, meat-free, gluten-free, The Garden Shed caters to all. This is one of Auckland’s best cafes and with all it has to offer, you’ll find yourself coming back again…and again…and again.
