We’ve only ever had good times at Federal Street’s The Glass Goose. Come Friday afternoon you’ll find us sipping on espresso martinis at the rooftop bar. Boasting an extensive drinks menu (shout out to their absolutely divine cocktails) and a delish shared plates menu, it’s the perfect pozzy to welcome in the weekend.

When we heard word that The Glass Goose was introducing a new breakfast menu, we were curious. What would the place we know and love for its late-night antics look like at the crack of dawn?

When we showed up at 7am on a recent Tuesday morning the Goose was looking mighty fine. Eager to make the most of the ‘up-skirt view’ of the Sky Tower, we found a seat in the courtyard’s garden-like oasis.

Blurry-eyed we studied the menu. It seemed we needed caffeine—pronto. The friendly waiter sorted us out with strong flat whites made from Kokako’s organic coffee as we tossed up brekkie options.

What to choose? Quinoa bircher muesli (gluten-free and dairy-free, might we add) or creamy ricotta pancakes? Or was it more of a bagel kinda morn? Ho-hum.

I decided on potato waffles while by breakfast buddy went for the big breakfast-esque offering with a side of bacon for good measure.

His plate was stacked high with all the best breakfast trimmings: toasted ciabatta, house-made potato hash, a generous serve of kransky sausage, two perfectly poached eggs and dollops of basil pesto. This was garnished with microgreens and served with said side of bacon—mmm!

As for the potato waffles, they were the answer to the life-long dilemma of “I really want waffles, but I don’t think I can do a sweet breakfast”. The solution? Savoury waffles—genius! Why has this not been done sooner?!

The perfectly golden waffles were sitting pretty atop a layer of lemon butter and avocado whip (umm yum) and served with smoked salmon, basil and a lemon wedge. It was fresh, flavoursome and no sugar-overload in sight.

Satiated, we basked in the morning sun as we waited for our food babies to settle. The Glass Goose, it seems you are good for both boozy nights out AND mouth-watering breakfasts. We’ll see you again soon!
