It feels like yonks ago that we brought you this article and, to be honest, we’re still feasting our way through that list—slowly but surely. If you’re in the same boat as us, then it looks like you need to speed things up because there’s a whole new crop of Auckland restaurants that need you to get to stat!

Burger Geek

Eden Terrace

You guys went crazy for our news that Auckland is now home to an American-style burger joint and rightly so—Burger Geek is the real deal. Head to this Eden Terrace takeaway restaurant for badass burgers, hot wings, and other tasty sides (our pick is the mac’n’cheese balls).

Devon on the Wharf

Devonport

Open at sparrow’s fart (5.30am!) and ‘til 11pm, Devon on the Wharf is the all-day eatery Devonport had been waiting for. Come sundown you can tuck into tender tagine and mezze platters, piled high with beef cheek rolls, deep-fried courgettes, beetroot tzatziki, mussels, bread and dip. Mmm, mmm.

The Original

Viaduct

The Original takes classic Kiwi pub fare and adds a delicious modern spin. Located on the Viaduct, this bar and eatery serves up the likes of wild rabbit croquettes, house-smoked salmon and a primo selection of steaks. The view is pretty decent, too.

Gemmayze St

K Road

Lebanon has landed in Auckland in the form of Gemmayze St. Led by Samir Allen, a talented Kiwi chef with Lebanese roots, this restaurant sits in K Road’s St Kevin’s Arcade, where diners can tuck into mezze-style fare including falafel, babaghanoush and creamy hummus. Don’t leave without trying their knefe—a filo, cheese dessert

Corner Burger

Mt Eden

Auckland’s burger buzz ain’t going anywhere. Corner Burger set up camp in Mt Eden Village in August and continues to churn out top-notch burgs. We’ve got a soft spot for the Winner Winner burger—double crispy fried chicken, bacon, cheddar, chipotle maple, American mustard, chipotle tom relish, gauc and special sauce. Their Snicker shake is off the charts.

Kopio

Parnell

Parnell’s favourite Malaysian restaurant is back! Four years after they closed their doors, Kopio has reopened, once again satisfying Parnell’s beef rendang, curry and roti cravings. You can’t beat a classic.

Gypsy Caravan

Ponsonby

Trust Ryan and Annalise Clarke to come up with something epic (yet again). The Street Food Collective has been transformed into a Gypsy Caravan—an eclectic pop-up serving an irresistible street food menu—the gyros are calling your name. Beloved bar, Herbie has also had a makeover, painted in bright pops of colour and shaking up Gypsy cocktails. Hurry though, Gypsy Caravan is only here until the New Year.

Azabu

Ponsonby

From the man who brought us Ebisu and Lucky Lucky Dumplings is Azabu. As Yukio Ozeki’s new venture, this sleek and chic venue seamlessly combines Japanese ingredients with South American flavours. We’re talking beef tartare tostadas, snapper ceviche, bao buns, dumplings and grilled octopus. Yum!

The Kitchen by MR TOMS

Ponsonby

MR TOMS has become a go-to sunshine drinking spot, but with the arrival of The Kitchen you’ll be wanting to perch your tush down for some quality tucker. The intimate space is perfect for both date nights and dinners with the crew, and the short menu means limited umming and aahing over what to order—you can just get it all. The pork cheek is the bomb.

Al's Deli

Kingsland

What’s not to love about Al’s Deli? From the doughnuts to the burgers, shakes and steak, we couldn’t be more chuffed that we can now get the lot in Kingsland. And the best thing about it? Al’s Deli Kingsland does delivery. Hellooo poutine in bed.
