The Secret West Auckland Night Markets You Need To Know About

If there's one thing we love, it's a goooood night market. There's something about the smell, the energy, the darkness and of course, food, that makes it one of the best things to do in Auckland. And, one such market started a couple of months ago and has since been swelling in popularity and we feel it is only our duty to let you in on the deets. We wouldn't want you missing out, after all.

Set in a leafy park with DJs playing some salty tunes, and a hipster or two, we present to you the Te Atatu Night Markets.

Like any good market, the line-up changes, but you can expect to stumble upon some of our favourite internationally inspired food trucks. Think bao experts Judge Bao, creators of the world's biggest paella Paella Pan, and vegetarian legends Wiseboy Burgers. With all of these choices and more the biggest pickle of your night will be what to eat.

And, if you have a sweet tooth, the market also has you covered! How you ask?! Lalele serves up an epic Vegan Popolato and their organic Raspberry and Rosemary Gelato is sure to please, while Rawe is known to serve up vegan and refined sugar-free smoothies.

Aside from the food, there are other fresh stalls sporting artisan goods to tickle all your fancies. Homewares, homemade chocolate, smoked salmon, sauerkraut, or even vintage and vinyl—take your pick.

If you've got sprogs in tow, these markets are kid-friendly. All you need to know is that there will be bubbles (not the alcoholic kind).

But it's not just the kids who get to have all the fun. There are other awesome activities such as henna, games and yes, there is a dance floor so you get down and boogie, or alternatively, stand back and watch.

This the Te Atatu Night Markets are also environmentally friendly! Boomerang Bags will be saving the world from plastic bags, sewing one reusable bag a time.

While you're there, make sure you do a little good at the same time. Next month they're helping FoodBank and Cat Rescue, and you can get behind them by donating food tins or packets and cat food. Or, you can bring along your homegrown produce for them to sell and you’ll be in to win a market meal of your choice. Last time, the money raised helped to look after and feed more 20 little kitties!

This is one night out where all you need to do is bring a blanket—they’ve got the rest covered!
