Let’s be real, Aotearoa is one of the most beautiful countries on the planet. From surfing and skiing to tramping and picnicking, the great outdoors of our country is hard to beat. The weather, however, occasionally turns to crap (or it’s just too damn hot outside) and we have no choice but to take refuge inside. 

Luckily for us, there are some pretty rad things to do in Auckland that are inside. We’re talking cooking classes, pole dancing, bingo and a bunch of other things that beat watching Netflix alone at home. 

Here are the top 50 indoor activities in Auckland. 

  1. Book in an arvo at the cat cafe. Need we say more.
  2. Jump your way to fit—it’s a thing at Uptown Bounce, Grey Lynn. Lose the shoes and bounce to your heart’s content while killing the calories!
  3. Don your beret and your best pondering expression and explore Auckland Art Gallery’s latest exhibitions and shows.
  4. Impress your significant other through the art of cookery. Sachie’s Kitchen in Parnell will have your taste buds tingling with her Asian-inspired cookery classes.
  5. More into Italian? Why not try one of Pasta & Cuore’s pasta classes to get your skills on point.
  6. Go and see a show. Sit back and take in the wonders at the Civic Theatre in the city.
  7. Sultry, jaw-dropping and good for you! Try your hand at a pole dancing lesson from award-winning Swing 360 Pole Studio.
  8. Academy Cinemas is renowned as being that cool, boutique cinema for hipsters and film goers all over Auckland. Book a modern, indie or foreign film and sink into your seat.
  9. Get your belly laugh ready and bring your tissues, Classic Comedy & Bar will have your laughter fix sorted.
  10. The Thirsty Dog on K Road host a poetry night every Tuesday. Take a date or bring your mate!
  11. Bake a cake. With a little help from The Caker of course. Buy one of their indulgent and healthier cake mixes and get creating.

  15. Grab a coffee, grab a mate and grab a game. At Cakes ’n’ Ladders you can settle down with a huge variety of cards and board games while enjoying a hot bevy.
  16. Peace and quiet is all around at Chapter Book & Tea Shop, except the occasional slurp of gourmet tea. The extensive shelves of novels and range of teas go hand in hand for a perfect morning or afternoon.
  17. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming. Actually at Northern Arena, you don’t just have to swim. You can enjoy the gym facilities as well as their wholefoods café.
  18. Shop, shop, shop. The city, K Road, malls—the list is endless to enjoy a favourite past time, or if you’re like us, our favourite sport. 
  19. Elliott Stables hosts over 12 individual and unique food restaurants. Think boutique food court meets taste sensations. We guarantee that you will be spoilt for choice. Work your way through them all, we dare you.
  20. Bitchin’ Bingo. What did you call me?! You heard correctly. This is a comedy show with a bingo twist. It’s free to play, just try to hear the numbers over the guilty pleasure songs playing in the background!
  21. Adrenaline junkies, take note. Race around the track at Blastacars and challenge your mates to a drift round the course.
  22. Feeling fruity? Control the smirk and get creative at a life drawing class in Auckland CBD.
  23. How many olives will you put in your martini? Get the creative juices flowing at a cocktail making class hosted by Bellini.
  24. Marvel and be jealous of the pure sass and talent at one of Caluzzi’s cabaret shows but don't let your delicious food go cold!

  38. Take a pew and get comfortable at Toto’s Pizza before taking on one of their famous metre-long pizzas. Maybe take the afternoon off to recover too.
