The weekend has graced us once again in this fine city and it’s up to you to make the most of it! You better have your best dancing shoes at the ready because this weekend it’s all about the music! From a cross-genre music fest, a '90s concert like no other to live entertainment all weekend long, shake that dancing bug out of your system!

If your two left feet aren’t so keen on the thought of coordinating in time with any sort of music, there’s still a bucket-load of fun to be had! Sit down and set your eyes on some enthralling documentaries, escape from reality into the world of theatre, or wine and dine your weekend away. Whatever it may be, you’re guaranteed to have some next-level fun this weekend at these wonderful events all around Auckland.

Borderline Music Festival

This weekend it’s all about genre bending at the wonderful and well loved Wine Cellar and Whammy Bar! Bringing some of the coolest underground artists locally and abroad, grab a single night ticket or make a whole weekend of it with their Weekend Pass! Artists include Tim Guy (Australia), Bad Sav, Peach Milk, The Blues (USA) and so many more!

Sounds on Screen Documentary Festival

Get to the revamped yet perfectly historic Warkworth Town Hall for a documentary festival like no other. Open-Air Cinema has curated a comprehensive program just for this event, and documentaries you could be seeing include Janis: Little Girl Blue, Marley, Ed Sheeran: Jumpers for Goalposts Amy, Cobain: Montage of Heck and so many more. To top it all off, it will be fully licensed AND offering beanbag seating!

Doc Edge Film Festival

The 12th annual Doc Edge Film Festival is back and kicking off at Q Theatre! Get excited, as it is headlined by ‘Whitney Can I Be Me’, the poignant and insightful life story of the endlessly iconic Whitney Houston. It’s the last weekend of this insane festival that's guaranteed to make you cry, laugh, or both! That’s not all—the full program offers 49 feature length films and 20 short films, showcasing the top-tier of international and New Zealand-made documentaries. Don’t limit yourself to one, pick a couple and make a weekend of it!

Swabhoomi: Borrowed Earth

The history of Indians in New Zealand comes to life in this stunning masterpiece. Prayas Theatre Company, renowned for their comedic and satirical works, has pushed their talents to new heights in this poignant historical piece. Follow the tracks of the first Indians in New Zealand to the modern issues of what it means to be a migrant today. Swabhoomi merges theatre, movement, puppetry, poetry and music to create this incredibly moving and real piece fusing the light-hearted moments to the more serious issues as an Indian Kiwi in current political climates.

Fusing Shakespeare’s original prose, English and Te Reo Maori… can it be done? Although Pop-up Globe has come to an end, your dose of Shakespeare doesn’t have to! Delivering a dynamic and cheeky interpretation of one of Shakespeare’s ultimate tragedies, the Maori performance mask (Te Mata Kokako o Rēhia) is brought to life by Regan Taylor in this moving solo performance. Maintaining the war setting but transporting you into the world of a timeless Aotearoa, two far flung iwi battle it out in this incredibly entertaining and oh-so-unique interpretation of a Shakespeare classic.

The Faustus Project

Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus—one of theatre’s greatest roles—is all of this special actor’s to perform! But there’s just one problem… they've never rehearsed with the rest of the cast! There’s a new guest performer as the leading role every night at this devlishly hilarious play. No technical rehearsals, no table reads and no dress rehearsals… what could go wrong?!

The Music of Cream—50th Anniversary Tour

The bloodlines of the super-group that brought us “Strange Brew”, “Sunshine of Your Love”, “White Room” and “Crossroads” embark on a special concert tour to celebrate one of the most innovative and explosive musical trios of all time. Malcolm Bruce (son of Jack Bruce), Kofi Baker (son of Ginger Baker) and Will Johns (nephew of Eric Clapton) come together in this incredible concert to perform all the songs you know and love from hearts that have been steeped in the Cream spirit and legacy!
