Restaurant Month kicks off with another seriously impressive round of Chefs Dinner Series, bringing star chefs from around the globe to our shores, at some of Auckland’s most loved dining institutions. We hope you have your stretchy pants ready—from a cheesy food fest, sake and wine nights, a foodie bike tour and feasts of epic proportions, we can guarantee you won’t be leaving August hungry! There’s a whole lot of exciting activities going down that support the important work of charities, so you can eat your way through August and feel good about it too! Are you ready for this?! A Taste of The Sugar Club | 1 August
High up in the sky, The Sugar Club is celebrating its fifth birthday by bringing together the five people that have helped shaped this Auckland institution over the years for A Taste of The Sugar Club. Host Peter Gordon reunites Pip Wylie from Wellington’s original Sugar Club, ex-Sugar Club London Tom Hutchinson, present Head Chef Naga Sunkara and new Executive Chef Josh Barlow for a five-course menu each inspired by the chef’s time at The Sugar Club. It might be something they remember about the restaurant or something they wish they’d put on the menu, paired with a perfect wine match.
Cheese Please | 1 August
Sabato is hosting a fun, fromage-filled night at Cheese Please—packed with ooey, gooey, cheesy wonder! Cheesemonger Calum will be serving up raclette straight from the hot grill, melted on top of a fresh baguette with cornichons and sweet garlic, and the guys from Garage Project will be there to quench your thirst with beer tastings paired with some of Sabato’s best cheese from around the world. Food trucks Guerrilla Grill and Phillippe’s Poutine will be parked up serving you even more cheesy goodness! There’ll be lots of tastings and in-store specials, so grab the cheese-lover in your life and get eating.
100 Artists | August 1—14 September
Celebrating their fifth year since opening their doors, Allpress Studio are hosting 100 Artists—an exhibition that will celebrate and acknowledge the many creatives who have shared their work in the space. With 35 selected artists and community events, there will also be a limited edition Allpress coffee, 100 Artists Blend. Highlights include a Q&A session about building a brand with guests including Huffer founder Steve Dunstan and Everyday Needs founder Katie Lockhart and Make Your Own, where you can learn how to make your own coffee with the help of a barista trainer!
Ceres Organics x Nadia Lim—A Winter Garden Dinner | 3 August
Ceres Organics and Nadia Lim are coming together once again for another sell-out event, inspired by a Kiwi winter garden. Nadia has created a delicious seven-course menu full of winter warmers in a winter garden set up by Evie Kemp. Celebrating Ceres Organics’ home-compostable packaging, they’re saying sayonara to plastic and hello to good garden fodder with even more of their range joining the compostable crew! Nadia will be the hostess with the mostess, joining the Ceres Organics team to demonstrate how and why its good to get down and dirty with compost!
Go For Gold | 3 August
When’s the last time you went up our tallest tower? Now you can for just a gold coin donation, all going to a good cause at Go for Gold! The Sky Tower is opening its doors for New Zealand residents to take in the sights of our city, with all proceeds going to Youthline, helping local youth development organisations to develop personal and leadership skills in our community. This party up in the sky will have a DJ, face-painting, dancers, and mascots for a cheap and cheerful family day out for a great cause!
Wynyard Quarter’s 7th Birthday at Silo Park | 4 August
It’s been seven years since the opening of Wynyard Quarter, so you’re invited to a celebration! Head down to Silo Park for a whole lot of birthday fun, including giant party games, a screening of Beauty and the Beast, and of course all your fave food trucks to keep you fueled for even more fun and games! This day-long celebration has something for everyone, including sunrise Tai Chi, lei workshop, a gold coin donation for a ride on the Dockline Tram, a growing kumara workshop and so much more!
Epic Bordeaux Tasting | 4 August
If you consider Bordeaux the tipple of your choice, head to the Epic Bordeaux Tasting at Glengarry, stat! The shipping containers are arriving from France, direct from Bordeaux, packed to the roof with some of the finest red wines in the world. This epic tasting event will have more than 50 different Bordeaux to try, as you walk around and explore the best regions of wine-making Bordeaux has to offer. You don’t have to be a red wine lover to be here—there will also be some of the beautiful, rare dry whites produced from Sauvignon Blanc and Semillion, and the sweet wines from Sauternes and Barsac to finish. Wines will be open that range from $15 to a whopping $200, so you can find some wines for your weekend drinks, and one to save for retirement in this stunning day of bold and beautiful reds.

It’s time to find that gift for that hard-to-buy friend, or treat yourself to a range of lifestyle products, homewares, art, fashion and so much more! This family-friendly day out will also have face-painting, a DIY kids workshop, and free kids activities to keep the little ones well-entertained. This is the last weekend to catch these epic international flicks at the New Zealand International Film Festival, so it’s time to get watching! This cultural highlight of our chilly winter provides a warm refuge at the movies, transporting locals into a variety of different worlds on the big screen. Presenting the latest and greatest films from around the world, this year NZIFF celebrates its 50th year of great films in Auckland. A Taste of Wagyu with Roman Petry | 9 August
Discover the world of the finest Wagyu beef with Roman Petry and Nic Watt in this night of absolute indulgence at A Taste of Wagyu with Roman Petry. Roman Petry began his 16-year career at two Michelin star restaurant, earning his first executive chef role at the age of 20. He explores modern Japanese robata cuisine at his current position at Roka Akor San Fransisco, one of the only 28 USA certified restaurants to serve authentic Kobe Wagyu beef. This one-off dinner will showcase the best of Wagyu in this five-course collaborative degustation dinner, matched with wines selected by seven of New Zealand’s wine experts.
Mid-Winter Feast | 11 August
The Mid-Winter Feast continues at Rothko at Sculptureum, bringing together fabulous food and art following last year’s sold-out success. Hosting four Chefs Series dinners, this two-course shared feasting menu is a delight for both stomach and eyes, and perfectly matched to Sculptureum wines at Rothko. This month’s mouth-watering feast is designed by Rothko Head Chef Jarrod McGregor, joined by this month’s guest Nicolas Bonnaud of Honest Chocolat—so you can expect some chocolate creations like never before! Get there before your dinner starts, enjoy a drink and a guided tour through the beautiful galleries.
Vegan Virgin | 16 August
Consider yourself a bit of a vegan virgin? No fear, Scarecrow is bringing a dining experience that delves deep into the best of vegan food, with chef Andrew, who was a vegan virgin himself until recently! This three-course dining experience will have you gorging on everything plant-based, from a pumpkin and walnut mince ravioli, to an orange blossom poached tamarillo to top it all off. What’s more, there’ll even be a vegan wine matching from Loveblock Wines, for an extra spesh vegan dinner that even the biggest meat-eaters will fall in love with!
Sustainable Coastlines Charity Ball: Let’s Get Cleaned Up | 18 August
The stage has been set for the eighth Let’s Get Cleaned Up Charity Ball for Sustainable Coastlines! This is going to be one sensational soiree, with tunes from Sola Rosa Sound System, Shoulder Rubs and DJ Murry Sweetpants all night long. Enjoy delectable canapes, a three-course dinner and delish drinks to make for one good night for one very good cause. All ticket sales, as well as funds from the silent auction on the night will go to raise funds for the very important ongoing work inspiring and educating others to look after our coastlines and waterways.
Sneaky Snacky Pop-up Restaurant | Until 18 August
Brought to us by The Sugar Club’s senior chef Min Seak Kang, Sneaky Snacky is an 80s throwback pop-up restaurant that has touched down at Ostro! This vaporwave-inspired fit-out showcases video and music from the era, matched with a Korean-inspired ‘snacky’ menu, combining flavours and cultures together. There’ll be a Donut Cheeseburger (yes, seriously!), along with Korean friend chicken and a mozzarella hot dog, guaranteeing a food experience you’ve never had before.
Bombay Beats N Eats | 24 August
La Zeppa is at it again with an incredible themed weekend of food, cocktails, live entertainment and a whole lot of fun for Bombay Beats n Eats! This time round, they’re bringing the streets of India to their rooftop, celebrating the bold, bright and beautiful Indian culture all weekend long. Some of Auckland’s finest Indian chefs will be serving up delish finger food, as well as food trucks with menus inspired by the theme especially for this occasion! That’s not all—you’ll also find clothing and accessory stalls, henna tattoo and Indian-inspired cocktails especially for the occasion.
Are We There Yet? Women & Equality in Aotearoa | Until 26 August
If you haven’t caught this exhibition yet, make plans to ASAP before it’s too late! On until the 26 August, Auckland Museum’s brand new exhibition Are We There Yet? Celebrates the 125th anniversary of women’s suffrage in Aotearoa, which is something us Kiwis can be seriously proud of. Delving deeper, the exhibit questions how far New Zealand has really come since women gained the vote, examining the speedbumps and successes of gender equality so far. With photographs of trailblazers, publications from the Museum’s collection, a short film and several interactive displays, you will be determining if we’re really there yet with women’s equality in our shores.

You’ll be enchanted with a six-course Filipino and New Zealand inspired dinner, paired with Noble and Savage teas and mocktails. Delve into flavours of the Philippines as never before, with a modern New Zealand twist, as Mordido defies the status quo and pushes boundaries in his contemporary and refreshing cuisine.

Nic Watt of MASU and Monique Fiso of Hiakai will collaborate on a showcase of fine food and wine, all while raising funds to help disadvantaged Kiwi kids realize their dreams.
