With the weekend now a distant memory, we arrive at the start of yet another week. Our beloved city never disappoints and as always, the new week is full of exciting, new experiences. A chocolate-led dinner, a heart to heart with Nick Cave and blind dining are just some of the exciting activities.
Here are the five best things to do in Auckland this week.
Monday 14 January
Gypsy Jazz At Caretaker
Looking for a place that goes off on a Monday night? Voxnova and the Caretaker have you covered. Hidden down an inconspicuous lane, you’ll find a set of stairs leading to a mysterious door. Beyond this door, lies the Caretaker—a venue kitted out in the style of a classic, old New York cocktail bar. We’re talking luxurious leather seats, smoky mirrors, dark wood and a moody atmosphere with an opium-den sort of vibe. Enjoy a night of live music and divine cocktails specifically tailored to your tastes. Heating up the stage will be Voxnova—a gypsy jazz quartet that will give the vibes through the night.
Tuesday 15 January
Chocolate Tuesdays At Cordis
Chocolate Tuesdays are part of Cordis’ themed nights at Eight. For those of you that are chocolate crazy, this is one event you don't want to miss. If you’ve ever fantasized about an entire meal revolving around your favourite heavenly treat, then prepare for your dreams to come true. Taste several courses, each more chocolaty than the one before. Feast upon the likes of chocolate naan bread, chocolate sushi and chocolate-infused sauce to spice up the grill, followed by delectable chocolate desserts. ‘Chocolate’ really is the word of the night.
Wednesday 16 January
City Of 100 Lovers
Get a little drama in your life (the good kind) with a visit to SKYCITY Theatre to enjoy the musical comedy City of 100 Lovers. Staged right here in Aotearoa, the play is uniquely ours, celebrating our lands, its people and way of life. It tells the story of an American who visits New Zealand and falls in love with the place—and with a certain Maori tour guide. As her ex-husband and an old friend join her in Aotearoa, things get a little complicated and utterly hilarious.
Thursday 17 January
Conversations With Nick Cave
Catch iconic Aussie singer-songwriter Nick Cave at the Auckland Town Hall for a night of talk and music. Cave, who brought us the hits Where the Wild Roses Grow and Stagger Lee, will perform songs on the piano and take questions from the audience in-between. Get to know the man behind the celebrity in an unfiltered, unscripted Q&A where no topic is off-limits.
American Express Openair Cinemas
What better way to enjoy a movie than under the stars? American Express Openair Cinemas is back for 2019 at Western Springs. Kicking off this Thursday screening Mortal Engines, grab a bite to eat from Toto Pizza and a drink from Giesen Wines or craft brewer Kaiser Brothers and get ready to relax. Upgrade your ticket for loungers, blankets and even table service. Before the movie starts, there's live music and even better, your pooch doesn't have to miss out because they're welcome here too.
