Another week is upon us and, to help you get through it with your sanity intact, we’ve rounded up a bunch of events for you to fill your time with. This week, Auckland’s in for some fun. We’ve got five famous Scots lighting up the stage at the Powerstation, a free yoga session, a food-truck extravaganza AND the launching of Fringe Festival and Splore, both.
So, here they are—the best things to do in Auckland this week.
Monday 18 February
Free Yoga At Ponsonby Central
There’s no better way to get the weekend’s toxins out of your system than to sweat them out in a free yoga session. Especially, when said yoga session is free. Grab your gear, bring a mat, a water bottle and perhaps a friend for company and, show up at Ponsonby Central’s Sapphire Room by 6PM to grab a spot. It’s that easy.
Teenage Fanclub At The Powerstation
The Powerstation’s lending its stage to Scottish rockers Teenage Fanclub and, there’s no doubt the five-piece band will be ripping it up, all night long. Hit songs, distinct song-writing and decades of great music combine to make the gig an unmissable event for all you musical souls out there. Catch the infamous What You Do To Me rockers live and, see how they’ve matured from boozy, grungy kids into seasoned musicians.
Tuesday 19 February
Fringe Opening Party
Auckland’s annual Fringe Festival is back to salute art in all its shapes and sizes. Celebrating both visual and performance arts, the event focuses on works weird, atypical and unexpected in nature. Starting this week, Fringe kicks off with a free Opening Party at The Wine Cellar. Running into the wee hours of the morning, the party line-up’s brimming with talented DJs, musicians and performances. Promising delicious snacks and drinks upon drinks, this is your chance to party with the most absurd, peculiar creatives of both local and international origins. Engaging conversations guaranteed.
Wednesday 20 February
Eden Park Food Truck Night
Sports is fun and all but, using the grounds of a sporting venue for a food truck event? Now, THAT’s using real estate to its full potential. Auckland’s home to a phenomenal food scene with a horde of food-trucks offering delicious eats, each more scrumptious than the one before. And when a bunch of these marvellous wheel-kitchens assemble in one place, accompanied by live mural painting, music and circus performances—trust us, you want to be there. Come along to Eden Park for an evening of picking and choosing, tasting and mixing snacks from your favourite mobile food vendors. Enjoy a lively atmosphere of a mini-food fest, satisfy your taste-buds and make new friends. Could you ask for a better Wednesday night?
Thursday 21 February
New Zealand’s favourite music festival, Splore, is finally here. Kicking off this Thursday, the festival is set to run over the course of four days at Tapapakanga Regional Park in Auckland’s Orere. Set on a beautiful beach-front, Splore is a chance to forget all your worries and live in the moment. To celebrate yourself, your friendships and our planet. Full of diverse music, art installations, workshops, forums and performing arts, the festival maintains a relaxed, positive, friendly culture. Dress up in costume, take part in themed camping, meet new people and enjoy the good vibes the festival is known for.
