Aucklanders, get those stretchy pants at the ready, because boy do we have news for you! This Sunday, you’ll have the chance to eat your way around the world….in the ‘burb of Mt Roskill.
Yes, we know that travel is quintessential for finding yourself, making new friends and all that jazz. But we all know that you travel for the food—and so do we.
And now, there’s absolutely no reason to fork out thousands of dollars for a big OE just to try the exotic and delicious tastes because a new festival is hitting the City of Sails and it’s your chance to (literally) eat your way around the world. You’ll also have the chance to soak in some of the epic cultures that make our city as great as it is.
This is a rare opportunity to try foods that you’ve never even heard of before. Lángos—what? Lángos is a Hungarian deep-fried flatbread, that is covered in cheese and sour cream. Where have you been all our lives? Then there’s gozleme—a Turkish flatbread filled with lamb, chicken or a blend of feta and spinach—yes, please!
With more than 100 vendors serving up a collection of 50 cuisines, you know you’re onto a good thing.
Say “Hai” to teppanyaki, “Bonjour” to French crepes and “Kia Ora” to Maori-fusion food.
Vegetarians and vegans, don’t worry, because they’ve got you covered, with vendors locked in so that you can enjoy this glorious day as well—no one left behind!
As well as being a foodie’s dream, the day also features some 40 cultural performances and activities. Soak in the vibrant blend of salsa and classic dance tunes with Platinum record-selling Latin fusion band, Kantuta or enjoy performances representing everywhere from India to Romania.
Of course, no festival would be complete without workshops, arts and craft stalls and games—and the Auckland International Cultural Festival has them in abundance. Try your hand at traditional Maori games, or be like Braveheart and attempt some Highland games.
This is one festival that should be on your calendar—with food, music, performances, stalls, games and more, it promises to be a day out to remember. Even better? It’s FREE!
