The weekend is finally upon us and, like the rest of New Zealand, we’re hoping for sunshine! There’s no lack of awesome Auckland events to hit up this weekend. Whether you’re looking to get your eat on, slip and slide at a pop-up waterpark, or visit the zoo in the dark, there’s plenty of things to keep you busy.
Here are the best things to do in Auckland this weekend. Enjoy!
Federal Street Summer Festival | Federal Street
November’s Federal Street Festival was a massive hit and this weekend’s one is set to be even better. On Friday and Saturday, the street will morph into a party lane with great food and drinks, sweet beats, and fun activities. Eat your way through the foodie outlets including The Fed, Gusto at the Grand, The Grill by Sean Connolly, MASU, Andy’s Burgers, and Jade Dragon. Bring the little ones on Saturday as they can have their faces painted, decorate cupcakes, or test their skills against the SKYCITY Breakers, Mystics and Warriors players.
Summer In The Square | Aotea Square
Whatever you do on Friday or Saturday this weekend, be sure to add Food Space Markets at Summer In The Square to your eating agenda. Delicious food will be served up by Blooms Pretzels, Fritz Wieners, Yummy Thai, Wilder and Hunt, Dixie Barbeque, and more!
Thursday 21st January
Wet ‘n Wild Water Slides | Snowplanet
What’s summer without a massive waterslide?! Snowplanet have created a pop-up Wet 'n Wild waterslide park to run from the 18th to 31st of January. Slip and slide for two hours on the Crazy Cruiser (3-8 years old), Mega Mountain, the 60m downhill King Cobra, or the ultimate 100m slide, the Downhill Dragster. There will be a sausage sizzle, steak sammies and pies on hand for when you get hungry. Bring the togs, bring the kids, and enjoy a day in the sun!
Friday 22nd January
Keihl’s Britomart Revival Hub | Britomart
Re-energise and revive at Kiehl’s Revival Hub this Friday! To celebrate their newly launched Daily Reviving Concentrate, Keihl’s have created a pop-up space featuring everything you need for an inner-city break. From music, food, entertainment and free product samples, plus a chance to win $2000 worth of Keihl’s products, it’s the most relaxing way to spend a Friday arvo.
Adam Lambert | Auckland Town Hall
Known for his killer voice (and hair) and captivating stage presence, Adam Lambert will be rocking out at the Auckland Town Hall this Friday. Fans will be treated to a night of Adam’s hit songs from his 2012 album, Trespassing, as well as a taste of The Original High, his latest album with a fresh sound and awesome collabs.
Endless Summer at Silo Cinema | Silo Park
A surf fanatic? Don’t miss the screenings of Endless Summer at Silo Park this Friday. The two movies showcase surfers Michael Hynson and Robert August surf their way around the world in the 60s and 90s, including in our very own Raglan. Grab some food from Silo Market and settle down for an evening of surf-centric cinematography.
Public Safari Nights | Auckland Zoo
Ever wanted to know what happens when the lights go out at Auckland Zoo? Now you can with Public Safari Nights. Embark on a guided torch-lit walk around the zoo, witnessing what its residents get up to after dark. The night safari includes a barbecue dinner and if you’re brave enough, you can sleep in the Old Elephant House and wake to the sound of a lion’s roar.
Saturday 23rd January
Kiwis On Board | Silo Park
Join Neil Finn, the Topp Twins and other great local artists as Kiwis On Board welcome the first of 650 Syrian refugees to New Zealand. The show kicks off at 5pm so bring blankets and a picnic, and take part in what’s set to be the warmest Kiwi welcome ever! A $20 donation is requested to support the re-settlement of these refugees.
Flamingo Pier | Waiheke Island
The much awaited pop-up festival, Flamingo Pier is taking place this Saturday at the beautiful Rangihoua Olive Grove Estate on Waiheke. House legend Ian Pooley will be headlining alongside a bunch of local DJs, who will have you dancing all Saturday long. Chinese New Year Festival and Market Day | ASB Showgrounds
Welcome the Year of the Monkey at the Chinese New Year Festival this Saturday. Locate those fascinators because New Zealand’s richest race and million-dollar party, the New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Million is back this Sunday. An event for the social calendar, this fast-paced racing day will feature a live band, six races and flowing bubbly.
