New Opening: TRUE food and yoga

By Marilynn McLachlan - 16 Jul 2016

Since we heard it was coming, The Urban List has been super-excited and finally, TRUE food and yoga opens to the public today.

Situated in the old Hammerhead building, TRUE food and yoga unveiled their gorgeous new venue to 140 of Auckland’s socialites and wellness-enthusiasts on Thursday night. The Urban List went along to see what it was all about.

First things first, all work and no play does not make Jack a dull boy at TRUE…But we’ll come back to that.

TRUE is the brainchild (and hard work parent) of Nic and Kelly Watt. You’ll recognise Nic’s name as the man behind MASU and an awesome cookbook. We interviewed him not long ago and think he’s pretty damn cool. His wife is a yoga instructor, and together they’ve made their dream come true.

The story goes, that when they first started seeing each other, their date nights were a little different. They’d go and do a yoga session and then drive to some other part of town to enjoy a meal (as you do). They started imagining a space where they could do both.

Many years and two children later, they have now had the chance to create that vision with TRUE food and yoga. The space combines two yoga studios, a bistro, chiropractic services, a shop AND a beauty room. Can we get a “hell yes”?!

Let’s break this baby down.

The Studios

With gorgeous wooden floors and floor-to-ceiling mirrors, the stunning studios will be overseen by Kelly, a qualified yoga teacher. There will be yoga, Pilates and barre classes. And, don’t be thinking it’s all about the girls, because on Wednesday nights it’s time for broga—which is totally a thing. There are also classes for the sprogs.

The Kitchen

There’s a lot on offer on the nutrient-dense menu. Nic and Kelly, who keep bees and chickens at home and have a real food philosophy to the venue. “We eat this way at home; we grow our own vegetables,” explains Nic.

There will be fresh and seasonal foods with (naturally) vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

Wine And Beer

Yep, we said we’d get back to this. There is a bar at TRUE. And of course, all the wines are organic and biodynamic. There are also craft beers available.

Services

It’s all about you when it comes to the services available. Iain Wood from Advanced Health Group will offer chiropractic, acupuncture and massage services. And, tucked away behind the bespoke shop, there’s a beauty salon in a beautiful, private room, led by Saku Skin.

TRUE is ultimately a venue that seeks to create community—whether you’re walking by or a regular. One thing’s for sure: The Urban List will be back!
