What Not To Miss At This Year’s International Comedy Festival

Almost a month of laughter? Yeah, that sounds like a hoot! The NZ International Comedy Festival is back for another year and we can’t wait!

Expect all the chuckles as your fave local comedians—as well as top international stars—take the stage night after night.

There’s something for everyone with this year’s festival showcasing more than 180 comedy shows across Auckland and Wellington.

Comedy Gala | Hosted By Urzila Carlson

Ain’t no better way to kick off the 2017 NZ International Comedy Festival than with an epic showcase. Held at the ASB Theatre, the hilarious opening night show will give an insight to the following month. Hosted by Urzila Carlson, the show stars the likes of Ed Bryne, Ismo Leikola, Ben Hurley and Rose Matafeo. Brace yourself for ALL the lols.

Studies Have Shown | Urzila Carlson

Speaking of Urzila, the award-winning comedian will be touring her solo show, Studies Have Shown. In the laughter-inducing show, Urzila will tear apart all the ridiculous things science has proven. Yep, science just got a whole lot more fun!

Wants To Show You Something | James Roque

Best Comedy Show On Earth | A Tasty Line-Up Of Festival Faves

The Best Comedy Show On Earth promises to deliver “10 comedians, 100s of jokes and 1000s of laughs”. Showcasing a different line-up every night, the 75-minute show provides a sneak peek of the festival’s best stars. There’s something for everyone, making it the perfect show for dates and mates alike.

Don’t Ask The Fan Brigade | The Fan Brigade

The Fan Brigade took home the best newcomer at 2016 festival and for good reason—the Kiwi duo is hilarious. In this musical comedy show (yes, this is a thing), The Fan Brigade sing their opinions with nil filter. A word of warning: their songs will be stuck in your head for days to come.

Outside Looking In | Ed Byrne

Ireland’s Ed Byrne has been a Kiwi fave for 20 years. To celebrate, Ed is hitting our shores—yet again—for this year’s festival. The stand-up champ has spent his adult life on the outside, observing the world within. In this giggle-inducing show, Ed has collected his thoughts and he’s got some things to say!

Ladylike: A Modern Guide To Etiquette | Louise Beuvink

Louise Beuvink’s debut solo show at last year’s festival received rave reviews—and she’s back for round two! In this etiquette masterclass, Louise explores everything from the art of passive aggressive Facebook comments to the science of making champagne with a goon bag. It’s dark, it’s dry and it’s oh-so-funny.
